Numerous women across the country have reported major Essure side effects, soon after having the birth control device implanted.
Ever since its FDA approval in 2002, over 750,000 women have had the permanent contraceptive implemented to avoid surgical sterilization and eliminating any possibility of pregnancy.
The Essure birth control consists of two metal coils, each of which are directly implanted into the woman’s fallopian tubes.
Eventually the tissue will swell, and prevent sperm to egg fertilization.
The Essure birth control has been popular amongst women since its release, as it is the only non surgical female sterilization method available in the United States.
However, thousands of women have reported major Essure side effects, speaking out against the device to warn the public of these complications.
Overview of Major Essure Side Effects
One of these women who had the Essure birth control device implanted stated that she and her doctor were under the assumption that the procedure was very fast and simple.
However, the woman reported that not only was the procedure very painful, and that she felt negative side effects almost immediately afterward.
Even though she had the Essure birth control device removed, she has suffered permanent complications and became unable to have children.
“I can’t get pregnant. Most women when they have Essure that’s their goal, is to not get pregnant. [B]ut when you have to have a body part taken out of you, it puts it into a bigger perspective that you really can’t have that anymore. I would just say don’t do it. It’s not worth it. It’s not worth putting your children through the things you have to go through. It’s just not worth it,” the woman stated.
Due to the number of women reporting major Essure side effects, manufacturer Bayer HealthCare has faced serious allegations of product liability.
There has been so much negative press against major Essure side effects that a bill has been filed in June 2016, called Ariel Grace’s Law.
This law is meant to hold Bayer liable for any minor and major Essure side effects or deaths, and will require physicians to report any and all complications caused by medical devices.
Specialized lawyers and consumer advocates are working with the FDA to make sure women are informed of potential Essure side effects, before they decide whether or not to have the device implanted.
These women are also pushing for the FDA to have a black box warning, as well as requiring physicians to go though a checklist of precautions before implanting the device.
“Push the FDA to get this black box warning on the packaging so no other women will be implanted without fully and completely understanding what they’re getting into,” a lawyer involved in the Essure litigation said.
Women who have been affected by major Essure side effects may be able to file legal action against Bayer HealthCare.
Potential claimants should contact a specialized lawyer to determine eligibility for an Essure lawsuit.
The public can also contact local state leaders to provide support for Ariel Grace’s Law.
In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
