Lawyers Investigate Kombiglyze XR, Onglyza Heart ProblemsIf you experienced Kombiglyze XR or Onglyza heart problems, you may have a legal claim.

Kombiglyze XR and Onglyza, are diabetes treatments that involve the prescription drug saxagliptin. The two drugs are used to help control high blood sugar in diabetes patients, in conjunction with proper diet and exercise.

Currently, lawyers are investigating evidence that suggests that taking these drugs had caused serious Kombiglyze or Onglyza heart problems in patients. If the connection is sufficiently established, manufacturers of the drug could be held liable for patient injury.

For patients who took Onglyza or Kombiglyze XR, joining a Kombiglyze XR or Onvlyza heart problems lawsuit could help recover compensation for financial, emotional and physical injury sustained as a result of your use of the drugs.

If you took Onglyza or Kombiglyze XR and had heart problems later, even if you do not think the heart problems were a result of your use of the drugs, experienced lawyers could help you determine if you have a legal claim. In some cases, patients who thought their medical conditions were hereditary or based on other factors discovered that they were really side effects of taking a prescription drug.

Patients have claimed that as a result of taking the two drugs, they have developed serious heart conditions. Some reports show that these conditions could even be fatal. One study of the drugs suggested that patients who take the drugs are more likely to be hospitalized for heart failure than other individuals.

Onglyza and Kombiglyze XR are classified as incretin mimetics, drugs that stimulate a body’s insulin production in the pancreas. This helps regulate blood sugar in people with type-2 diabetes. Incretin mimetics are a fairly new family of drugs.

They became more popular after another popular diabetes medication, Avandia, fell out of favor after it was recalled for being linked to a large spike in patient deaths caused by heart failure.

Though incretin mimetics like Onglyza or Kombiglyze XR initially seemed like a safe alternative to other diabetes drugs, they still may pose a high risk for impacting a patient’s cardiac health. In fact, just last year, the FDA required Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca to label Onglyza with a stronger warning of the drug’s heart failure risk.

This change came after the drug companies were hit with 14 lawsuits claiming that Onglyza heart problems were not disclosed to patients or medical professionals.

Patients in these lawsuits claim that Bristol-Myers Squibb and AstraZeneca failed to demonstrate that releasing the drug into the market would not result in “unacceptable increase cardiovascular risk,” which was a requirement of all new diabetes treatments.

AstraZeneca fired back against the patent claims, stating that it is “confident in the safety and efficiency of Onglyza, when used in accordance with the FDA approved label, which has been established through clinical trials.”

Nonetheless, around 200 cases claiming Onglyza heart problems have been reported, and experts estimate that numbers could soon reach the thousands. If you took Onglyza or Kombiglyze XR and later experienced Kombiglyze or Onglyza heart problems, now is the time to contact an experienced lawyer to see if you have a legal claim.
