The lack of a reversal agent continues to be an issue with Eliquis bleeding side effects, leading to more Eliquis lawsuits. Similar lawsuits have been filed against the makers of similar drugs Pradaxa and Xarelto.
Eliquis in 2012 joined Pradaxa and Xarelto in the blood thinner market. It was created by Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squib as an alternative to warfarin, the go-to anticoagulant for decades.
Warfarin was known for requiring additional monitoring as well as a fixed diet during use. Patients may use Eliquis to prevent blood clotting after certain surgeries as well as to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism.
While Eliquis does not require monitoring and can be an effective blood clot preventative, it has caused many to suffer from internal bleeding side effects. Furthermore, there is currently no antidote for Eliquis.
If a patient begins to suffer from side effects of Eliquis, the internal bleeding can go uncontrolled and cause patients to suffer from serious complications, or even death. Warfarin, though perhaps more inconvenient, has an antidote which fights the anti-blood-thinning quality of the drug.
Xarelto and Pradaxa have been associated with similar side effects and in larger numbers because they have been on the market for a longer period of time. There are currently no antidotes for these drugs either.
Eliquis Lawsuits
As a result, many have chosen to file Eliquis lawsuits that accuse the drug’s manufacturers of negligence, misrepresentation, among other claims. Plaintiffs have filed for loss of consortium if Eliquis caused a person to lose intimacy with their spouse. Wrongful death lawsuits may also be filed if a loved one died from internal bleeding or other Eliquis lawsuits.
Side effects of Eliquis may include bleeding on the brain, intestinal bleeding, kidney bleeding, deep vein thrombosis, and internal bleeding. Hundreds of adverse event reports have been filed with the FDA naming similar side effects listed in Eliquis lawsuits.
Pfizer and Bristol-Meyers Squibb may be held responsible for failing to warn users against deadly side effects of Eliquis and also for allegedly inadequately informing the medical community that an antidote did not exist. Patients may win compensation for medical expenses, pain and suffering, and more.
Already, internal bleeding lawsuits filed against the manufacturers of Pradaxa and Xarelto have paid hundreds of millions of dollars in damages to plaintiffs. Class action lawsuit investigations and an MDL were formed in order to unify plaintiffs.
