Kia Telluride and K5 recall overview:

  • Who: Kia America, Inc. is recalling 201,149 Telluride and 100,063 K5 vehicles.
  • Why: The door belt molding trim and rear window trims can detach, the former posing a road hazard.
  • Where: The recall is effective across the United States.

Kia is recalling more than 200,000 Telluride vehicles from model years 2023 to 2025 due to a potential issue with the door belt molding trim.

The door belt trim can delaminate and detach, which may create road hazards for other vehicles, increasing the risk of accidents. The Kia Telluride recall was announced on July 28, 2025, under NHTSA Campaign Number 25V494000.

Kia will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the belt molding trim assemblies as necessary, free of charge. The notification letters are expected to be mailed by September 26, 2025.

Kia addresses potential road hazards in Telluride recall

Kia has acknowledged that these parts may detach and “become a road hazard for other vehicles, increasing the risk of a crash,” according to the recall notice.

This Kia Telluride recall is part of a broader action by Kia, which includes another recall affecting 100,063 K5 vehicles for a similar issue with loose rear window trims.

To address the problem, Kia is offering a free inspection and replacement of the affected trim parts at their dealerships. Owners of the impacted vehicles are advised to return their cars to a Kia dealership for the necessary repairs.

Kia says that the replacements will be carried out at no cost to the vehicle owners.

For more information about the Kia Telluride or K5 recalls, consumers can contact Kia customer service at 800-333-4542. Additionally, owner notification letters are expected to be mailed by September 26, 2025, providing further instructions on how to proceed with the recall process.

Kia says it has not received any reports of injuries related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Kia Telluride or K5 trim issues, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.

In January, Kia recalled certain Kia EV9 hybrid electric vehicles manufactured between Sept. 25, 2023, and Oct. 15, 2024 due to a potential loose seat fitting or a rattling noise.

I have a Kia Seltos and an open claim with Kia America Consumer Affairs. I have an electrical problem with my headlights ( replaced L=X4,R=X3) and dash lights. Engine drinks oil 1 1/2- 3 Qts between each oil change since I got it. Auxiliary battery stop restarting after shutting off engine at stop lights and stop signs. Dealership replaced battery when under warranty. Now it’s doing it again multiple times when in use daily. Dealership said I need to take it to an electrical mechanic. I don’t want this car anymore!
