A low-T lawsuit was filed by a Kentucky man who alleges his use of Depo-Testosterone caused severe cardiac complications.
Before taking Depo-Testosterone, plaintiff Ricky R. had no history of blood clots or cardiovascular health problems, according to his testosterone product lawsuit.
After reviewing the defendants’ advertisements, the testosterone lawsuit says, Ricky became concerned that he had depleting testosterone levels. So he requested a prescription for low-T (low testosterone) treatment and was given Depo-Testosterone in May 2010.
A marketing campaign promoting Depo-Testosterone targeted men who were either middle-aged or elderly and were concerned about their testosterone levels. The advertisements mentioned several symptoms of testosterone depletion including irritability, fatigue, weight gain, and decreased libido. Those, the low-T lawsuit says, are associated with aging rather than a specific condition.
Ricky’s physician states that never would have prescribed the plaintiff this product if he knew the risks, nor would Ricky have accepted it. He suffered a heart attack in February 2014.
The low-T lawsuit alleges Pfizer Inc. and Pharmacia & Upjohn Co. are negligent, published false advertising, concealed information, and misrepresented a product.
This Testosterone Therapy Lawsuit is filed as part of In Re: Testosterone Replacement Therapy Products Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2545, in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois, Eastern Division.
Overview of Testosterone Therapy Complications
Depo-Testosterone is an form of androgen testosterone, which is used for testosterone therapy. Medical experts warn that its biological mechanism causes blood clots to form, because it increases hematocrit and estradiol in adult males resulting in thickened blood flow.
This and other low-T products remain popular, despite numerous cardiac complications.
Medical experts have said that most of those who use low-T treatments don’t have an ailment that requires treatment, but are simply experiencing normal changes of aging. That is something pharmaceutical companies are allegedly taking advantage of in their marketing of the drugs.
When testosterone replacement therapy was approved by the FDA in 2000, it was meant to give treatment options for men who were suffering from legitimate testosterone-lowering conditions, like hypogonadism.
Although only a small number of people actually have that condition, tens of millions have been prescribed the treatments. Most of the side effects that men have suffered have been avoidable, numerous testosterone therapy lawsuits allege.
