old spice class actionAn Old Spice lawsuit accuses manufacturer Procter & Gamble of ignoring hundreds or thousands of reports of deodorant rash associated with some of its products.

The litigation started with an Old Spice lawsuit filed in a federal court in Ohio by plaintiff Rodney Colley of Virginia, who is seeking to represent a class of Old Spice consumers who experienced similar reactions to the deodorant products.

Colley claims that after only a few uses of Old Spice deodorant, he developed “severe rashes, burning and discomfort” that caused him to immediately stop using the product. Photographs of Colley included with his Old Spice lawsuit show a clearly visible dark discoloration underneath his arms.

Colley says he’s not the only one who’s come down with this condition. He believes that “hundreds, if not thousands” of Old Spice customers have been affected by these burns.

He cites complaints lodged by numerous consumers in online forums and social media outlets, consumers who say their Old Spice use causes far more skin problems than they reasonably expected.

In a review on Consumer Affairs, one woman says she has to put burn cream on the rash to stop the pain. She says it’s painful to put her arm down, and she can no longer wear shirts with sleeves.

Based on these numerous reports, Colley argues that Procter & Gamble should have acknowledged the problem and addressed it properly. Instead, he says, the company is simply withholding information about deodorant rash so that it can “continue selling the product and reaping windfall profits.”

Colley is seeking at least $25,000 in damages for himself and each other class member who developed a similar skin condition. He projects the total damage award will exceed $5 million.

In addition to the alleged pain and injury, he claims, users of these products are also economically harmed by not receiving the product they thought they were buying.

Second Old Spice Lawsuit Begins in California

Not long after Colley’s claim got underway, a California man filed his own Old Spice class action lawsuit. In this case, plaintiff Gregory Johnson is raising claims under several California laws like the Unfair Competition Law and the Consumer Legal Remedies Act.

Johnson faults Procter & Gamble for failing to address the reports of deodorant rash properly, either with a product recall or an investigation into what’s causing these skin reactions. He says the company has failed in its duty to warn consumers about the risk of rash associated with these products.

Procter & Gamble insists their deodorant is safe to use. A spokesperson says that a small number of users may develop irritation due to what he calls alcohol sensitivity.

There are over a dozen different specific kinds of Old Spice deodorant that have already been implicated in the Old Spice lawsuit, but the products at issue aren’t limited to that list. Any Old Spice deodorant could be the subject of a legal claim.

Attorneys are now interested in talking to persons who developed a rash, chemical burn, or similar condition after using Old Spice deodorant. Such persons may be eligible to join the Old Spice lawsuit with a legal claim of their own.

Obtaining the help of a personal injury lawyer may help you obtain money damages for the pain and suffering caused by injuries from Old Spice deodorant products.

The Old Spice Deodorant Rash Class Action Lawsuits are Gregory Johnson V. Procter & Gamble, Case No. 3:16-cv-02302 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California and Colley. v. Procter & Gamble Co., Case No. 2:16-cv-00225-MHW-KAJ, in the U.S. District Court of Southern Ohio.

I am very sadden to learn that this deodarnt Old Spice left severe burns under both armpits. I usually use Dove deodarant. I had a photo shot and ran out of deorant and use Old Spice deodorant I receive as a birthday gift from my grandmother in September 2020. Hours later i begin to feel and uncomfortable feeling under both of my arms. Once arriving at my destination I went into the restroom and observed the area and view both armpits was flaming red. I been to wash underneath my arms using cold warm and the skin begin to come off. I went to the Duane Reade store to by a burning cream it cool the area down temporary. It begin again the next day, i went to the emergency room and was told I have a chemical burn and received a Creme to apply and antibiotics. I then caught an allergic reaction to the antibiotics and had to return back to the hospital. I currently still have the marks and unable to use deodarant.

My aunt died in 2014 so I know it was before that. I got some Old Spice deodorant and put it on and went to work on the 3pm to 11pm shift. A few hours later, I had to go in the bathroom and take off my shirt. I got some soap and water with a clean rag and washed that stuff off. I emailed them when I got home that it burned my armpits. The next day, they were red as a beet. A few days later they were still burning and skin was peeling..

I don’t recall if they ever even replied back. I never delete my emails, so after I saw others had this problem and sued, I will have to go look the email up to see the date on it. That HURT and I know what others went through.

Used this product for about three days. Old Spice Swagger to be exact. Noticed my armpits looked red before getting in the shower and looked. Noticed the were very red and itchy. Skin peeling off my arms and very irritated. It looks like someone held a lighter under my armpit and just let the skin melt off of me. No words can describe what it looks like.

I used this deodorant for maybe a few days. Went to take a shower and saw how RED AND RAW MY ARMPITS WERE. Skin is literally peeling off of me from this. My armpits are so itchy. It looks like someone held a lighter under my armpit and just let my skin melt off. I’ve never experienced something like this before. Words cannot describe how gross it looks. I can’t believe this deodorant company is still producing products.

I also was burnt after using this product, I had bought it awhile back on sale bc if you buy two packs you get the one for free. And needless to say I used it and broke out really bad and IT HURT SOOO BAD my armpits were on fire. No matter what I did to try and sooth it nothing worked, not until my girlfriend said it was a chemical burn. And I used a burn cream for it to stop hurting, HOW is that not a burn. Im really disgusted with the Hundreds of others who reported the same thing, why is it 2020 ND they are still having the same issue, mayb at the factory someone is quality checking there product and the chemicals in it are to high. Wonder if I had a chemist test it what they would say about these and my sticks of deodorant as to how high the chemical content is.

This is a message I just sent old spice customer service:

My daughter has just received huge chemical burns underneath her arms due to old spice deodorant. She can’t move her arms, she is in terrible pain. The burns are raw, red, and hot. It’s not fair that my 16 year old has to live this way. She can’t do ANYTHING. Can’t shower underneath because the water hurts so bad, can’t shave, can’t even sleep on either side of her arms!!! She’s had to go to the doctors. She doesn’t have health insurance which mean I had to pay a large co-pay and go to the pharmacy to buy ointments to treat it. That’s on top of all the neosporen we had to buy before going to the doctors.

    We have photos.

My husband and I are extremely close to calling our lawyer and filing a lawsuit against you considering how BAD these burns are.

What are you going to do to do to compensate us? What proof do we need to give you to prove our hardship? I can send you anything you need.

What I’m looking for is compensation. Let’s get this worked out in whatever way you can.

I have horribly painful chemical burns under both my arms after using Old Spice Ultra Smooth. I was just googling how to treat chemical burns on the skin hoping to find something to help the pain & oozing, when pictures started popping up of others with similar injuries & burns under their arms from using Old Spice too. It’s horrible they are continuing to sell this product knowing it’s harmful & causing pain & injury.. Burning scarring & damaging people’s skin. I have pictures of my burns & the toxic corrosive Old Spice Deodorant that has caused them. That should be called (Old Spice Acid)
