According to an article posted on YourNextShoes.com, Fabletics’ business model is founded upon the idea of brand loyalty subscription. While it is conceivable you could make a one-time single purchase of a pair of leggings from the website, the company has been accused of signing online visitors up for one of two subscription-based plans without adequate disclosure of the subscription’s terms or how it can be cancelled.

How does Fabletics work for general subscribers?

As indicated in the Your Next Shoes article, registration for general membership is a necessary part of making your first foray into purchasing Fabletics active wear. Enrollment in general membership involves answering a few questions about how and when you engage in exercise routines, lifestyle markers, and athletic wear style and fit preferences.

The aim of this questionnaire is purportedly to be able to personalize their suggestions to you. These suggestions come in a monthly email to you – the consumer—unless you take the time to unsubscribe from them.

Subscription may not be the best choice for a consumer who wants to buy merchandise of this type only once in a great while. That said, there is no obligation to buy anything associated with the general membership. Additionally, the emails sent should offer a link to discontinue this basic subscription by opting out.

How does Fabletics work in terms of VIP membership?

The second level of subscription in the Fabletics model is the VIP membership. To encourage signing up for this level, those with general memberships are offered the best rates on apparel with supposedly up to half off the estimated retail value. But it comes with a cost.

According to a 2015 Huffington Post article which was updated in 2017, signing up for VIP membership involves okaying the automatic charging of a credit card $49.95 each month. In order to avoid this prearranged charge each month, the VIP member must log in and choose to deliberately skip the month via a drop-down box.

A large number of members say they often ended up paying for products they didn’t want when they didn’t opt out for that month’s purchase.

Cancelling a Fabletics subscription?

As indicated by a 2015 Business Insider article, canceling the VIP membership requires the consumer to make a phone call.

For many that have taken the time to make that call, the resolution has been allegedly unsatisfactory. In fact, many people have indicated that while their request has often been greeted positively and they have received email confirmation of their cancellation, they have continued to be billed on their credit card.

Automatic credit card billing—especially in the age of paperless billing—is easy to miss unless one attends to statement minutia on a month-by-month basis. Former purchasers have indicated through sites such as the Better Business Bureau (BBB) charges have often been levied for months before being recognized.

On a July 15, 2019 BBB complaint, one woman said her daughter made a Fabletics purchase, and was signed up without disclosure into VIP membership. Her father’s credit card had been charged the $49.95 subscription fee for close to a year before the charges were discovered, with charges amounting to a total of $599.40.

Complaints about Kate Hudson’s workout wear company have inundated the BBB and the internet with complaints about the company’s subscription scheme. For consumers who received a cancellation notice that were still charged, a class action lawsuit might help recoup the loss.

    Hello,

I wanted to know who I could contact because I was waiting on a few settlement checks, but moved since then. Who could I contact to find out if I have any checks that were returned by the USPS?
