Hostess Ding Dong recall overview:
- Who: The J.M. Smucker Co. is recalling select lots of Hostess Ding Dongs, affecting multiple product sizes.
- Why: The recall is due to potential mold presence caused by a mechanical issue.
- Where: The recall is effective across the United States.
The J.M. Smucker Co. announced a nationwide recall of specific lots of Hostess Ding Dongs in various sizes due to concerns about mold development.
The recall, issued on Aug. 21, applies to Hostess Chocolate Ding Dong products, including single-serve, 10-count and family packs.
The affected products have universal product codes 8-88109-01002, 8-88109-11061 and 8-88109-11092, with “Best By” dates from Aug. 30 to Sept. 3, 2025.
The issue arose from a mechanical problem that created conditions conducive to mold growth before the expiration date, according to the recall notice.
Hostess recall urges consumers to return affected products
The recall notice advises consumers not to consume the affected Hostess Ding Dongs and to return them to the place of purchase.
J.M. Smucker has not specified the exact locations where the products were sold, but SpartanNash, a distributor, serves approximately 2,500 retail locations across the United States, including its own grocery stores like Family Fare and D&W Fresh Market.
In response to the issue, J.M. Smucker has taken steps to rectify the mechanical problem that led to the potential mold presence. The company assures that no other products are affected by the Hostess recall.
For further information, consumers can contact Hostess Brands at 1-800-483-7253 or the customer service center at 1-800-451-8500.
J.M. Smucker says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the Hostess recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In other August recalls, Blue Bell recalled its Moo-llennium Crunch ice cream due to undeclared almonds, walnuts and pecans as a result of a packaging error.

I got the contaminated ding dongs and it sent my autoimmune disorder into hyperdrive. I spent 3 weeks in bed and lost 10 pounds. At one point I was having to crawl to the bathroom because I was too weak and sick to stand up or walk. Thanks hostess
I stopped buying ding dongs didn’t like how they taste maybe that’s the reason why, the taste was Unscribable.
