A new class action lawsuit accuses American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. of selling vehicles with defective turbocharged engines that are prone to overheating, head gasket failure and other problems.
Plaintiff Radley Alcantara and five others filed the Honda turbocharged engine lawsuit against Honda on July 1 in California federal court.
The plaintiffs allege Honda’s 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, found in vehicles like the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Acura RDX and TLX from model years 2016 to 2022, have a design defect that causes engine coolant to leak into the cylinders.
This leads to overheating, head gasket failure and other serious issues, they say.
Honda refuses to fix defect, lawsuit claims
The plaintiffs argue that this defect poses a significant safety risk, as it can cause vehicles to lose power suddenly, potentially leading to accidents.
They claim Honda was aware of the defect but failed to disclose it to consumers, leaving them with unreliable and expensive vehicles.
The lawsuit alleges the automaker has refused to fix the problem under warranty, forcing consumers to pay out of pocket for repairs.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of warranty, unjust enrichment and violations of consumer protection laws. They are seeking certification of the Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit, damages, fees and costs, and a jury trial.
Last year, Honda was hit with a similar class action alleging defects in its 1.5-liter i-VTEC turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which reportedly suffers from “inadequate sealing and cooling.” According to that lawsuit, coolant leaks into engine components, causing overheating, loss of power, and contamination of engine oil.

Mitch Williams, Dylan T. Martin and Trenton H. Mann of Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles PC.
The Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit is Alcantara, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., et al., Case No. 2:25-cv-06009, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

2019 Honda accord sport 1.5T, head gasket failure, Honda will not cover repair.
2019 Acura rdx aspec with turbo blown head gasket was replaced under warranty. Still having issues
My daughter’s 2018 Honda Accord Sport at 82,000 miles lost power in the interstate. Honda said her head gasket was bad and fluid leaked. She had to pay $4,000 to fix. I contacted Honda USA and they said they would not help or get involved. I would like to join this class action suit.
North Carolina resident here – I’m having same power failure issues with my 2020 crv. 2 local dealers service manager claim they’ve “never heard of these issues” I am fearful of driving the car at this point. 2x, sudden loss of power, on interstate. $2k costs to repair with no guarantee it won’t happen again Please advise if you can refer me to someone here for legal advice.
I’m having the same problem with my 2017 CRV with 80 thousand miles. I have a blown head gasket the Honda refuses to pay for repairs. They say since out of warranty and the car is too old. How do I join this class action lawsuit?
I have an accord 2022 and I’ve already had to replace the fuel injectors, and I’ve had a blown head gasket. over $8,000 worth of work…
I have a 2021 honda accord i purchased brand new and now at 75000 miles i have a leaking gasket leaking coolant into cylinder 1. Car loses power and shakes with repairs over 4000 and still paying the car.
How do I become part of this lawsuit?
At a minimum, Honda is guilty of a major failure to disclose information on their product. I purchased a 2026 crv 1.5t only to find out after the fact that I have been lied to by motion. I typically keep my cars 10 to 15 years. Fat chance now, looks like I will be SOL at around 130k. This is highway robbery and Honda needs to have their feet put to the fire!
It’s unsettling just how similar my experience was as well. My car’s dashboard lit up like Christmas tree lights and turns out I have a blown head gasket leaking fluid to cylinders 1 and 2. My car is currently in the auto shop. Will be keeping the receipt for sure. I hope this lawsuit goes through and get compensated at minimum.
