- Where: The Honda class action was filed in California federal court.
A new class action lawsuit accuses American Honda Motor Co. Inc. and Honda Motor Co. Ltd. of selling vehicles with defective turbocharged engines that are prone to overheating, head gasket failure and other problems.
Plaintiff Radley Alcantara and five others filed the Honda turbocharged engine lawsuit against Honda on July 1 in California federal court.
The plaintiffs allege Honda’s 1.5-liter and 2.0-liter turbocharged engines, found in vehicles like the Honda Accord, Civic, CR-V, Acura RDX and TLX from model years 2016 to 2022, have a design defect that causes engine coolant to leak into the cylinders.
This leads to overheating, head gasket failure and other serious issues, they say.
Honda refuses to fix defect, lawsuit claims
The plaintiffs argue that this defect poses a significant safety risk, as it can cause vehicles to lose power suddenly, potentially leading to accidents.
They claim Honda was aware of the defect but failed to disclose it to consumers, leaving them with unreliable and expensive vehicles.
The lawsuit alleges the automaker has refused to fix the problem under warranty, forcing consumers to pay out of pocket for repairs.
The plaintiffs are suing for breach of warranty, unjust enrichment and violations of consumer protection laws. They are seeking certification of the Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit, damages, fees and costs, and a jury trial.
Last year, Honda was hit with a similar class action alleging defects in its 1.5-liter i-VTEC turbocharged gasoline direct injection engine, which reportedly suffers from “inadequate sealing and cooling.” According to that lawsuit, coolant leaks into engine components, causing overheating, loss of power, and contamination of engine oil.

Mitch Williams, Dylan T. Martin and Trenton H. Mann of Beasley, Allen, Crow, Methvin, Portis & Miles PC.
The Honda turbocharged engines class action lawsuit is Alcantara, et al. v. American Honda Motor Co. Inc., et al., Case No. 2:25-cv-06009, in the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California.

I have the same issues and just today a recall of the same years of civics for the possibility of a wheel coming off. Not to mention the air conditioner is on its third air compressor and their 10 year warranty will be over for some of those years soon leaving a lot of people paying to have it replaced every year. The whole thing is a nightmare and a death trap. But you can’t sell it and pawn it off on some unsuspecting person. That would be cruel yet here we are stuck and what next? DO THE RIGHT THING HONDA!
I have the same issue and want to join this lawsuit. My 2019 Honda CRV is in the shop right now and it will cost me over $5000 to get it running again. This is after Honda dealership finally replaced recalled fuel pump and the independent mechanic replaced a high presure fuel pump ($1,300 charge); all within four days. The car just dead stopped in the middle of the highway. I am lucky I wasn’t traveling 70 miles per hour or I would be either seriously hurt or dead.
Literally looking at a massive repair right now for this very thing on 2018 CR-V. Is there a way to join in on the suit?
How do I join. I have a 2020 Honda Civic with all of these issues sitting in my garage
I have the same issue, my wife and i purchased a CR-V started doing wierd things, and the antifreeze kept staying low. Never leaked anything or dripped. So we took it to an ASE certified mechanic we trust. He was able to scope it and found the head gasket blew out and damage to the head as well as block. Now it is sitting in my carport. Cost to fix or replace between $3000-$12000 . They need to own up to it and do the right thing.
I also want to say – Honda has no warranty on the head gasket issue. I only have 31,000 miles. The Honda Corp are really reluctant to want to help. Honda doesn’t want to help fix these issues. They stated to send in paperwork show what service was done and they might review it and ??? help to recoup this expensive cost.
