Xarelto gastrointestinal bleeding anemia red blood cellsJohnson & Johnson and Bayer HealthCare are facing a growing multidistrict litigation (MDL), consisting of numerous product liability claims alleging Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms. One of the most recent claims comes from a Michigan man, alleging he almost died from Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms.

Plaintiff Thomas D. is filing legal action against the pharmaceutical companies, alleging they failed to warn him and his physician about Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms. According to the Xarelto lawsuit, Thomas was prescribed Xarelto on Sept. 25, 2014 and used the anticoagulant for typical treatment purposes.

Xarelto is a new generation anticoagulant that is often prescribed to patients with atrial fibrillation and to patients who are at high risk for stroke. Xarelto and other anticoagulants are commonly prescribed to patients suffering from blood clot conditions.

Xarelto and other anticoagulants do this by inhibiting the body’s clotting mechanism, which also puts the patients at risk for potentially fatal consequences from Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms. Without the body’s clotting mechanism, minor internal bleeding injuries become potentially fatal.

This is allegedly what happened to Thomas, who experienced Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms on April 11, 2017. After being hospitalized for gastrointestinal bleeding and hematuria, his doctor took him off his Xarelto prescription.

Thomas opted to file legal action against Bayer HealthCare and Johnson & Johnson after discovering the pharmaceutical companies allegedly knew or should have known about the problems associated with Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms.

Overview of Xarelto Internal Bleeding Symptoms

Xarelto was approved by the FDA in 2011, which was one year after Pradaxa entered the United States market. Pradaxa was the first medication release for blood thinning purposes since warfarin in the 1950s, and quickly became a popular choice for patients needing anticoagulant treatment.

Xarelto and other new generation anticoagulants were touted to be more convenient and efficient than warfarin, as doctors could prescribe them in a single dose. This differed greatly from warfarin patients who had to undergo frequent doctor visits for dose adjustments.

However, warfarin was also the only anticoagulant with an established bleeding antidote for years in the form of vitamin K. Recently, a reversal agent for Pradaxa was made available.

However, Xarelto patients do not have a reversal agent and need emergency treatment if they experience any internal bleeding events. Thomas is filing his Xarelto bleeding lawsuit as a part of MDL No. 2592, where it will stand alongside other claims also alleging Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms. By joining an MDL, Thomas will avoid potential problems like conflicting rulings from different judges.

Thomas alleges the pharmaceutical companies either knew or should have known the potential dangers associated with their medication, but failed to warn the public against this. Thomas states he would never have agreed to take the medication if he had known the risks of Xarelto internal bleeding symptoms.
