GM recall overview:

  • Who: General Motors (GM) has recalled more than 90,000 Cadillacs and Chevrolets.
  • Why: The vehicles may have faulty transmissions.
  • Where: The GM recall is active in the United States.

General Motors has recalled more than 90,000 Cadillac and Chevrolet vehicles due to a transmission issue that can cause the front wheels to lock while driving.

The GM recall was published to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration website on March 6. It applies to 90,081 vehicles, including certain 2019-2020 Cadillac CT6, 2020-2021 CT4, CT5, and 2020-2022 Chevrolet Camaro vehicles equipped with a 10-speed transmission.

According to the recall, the transmission may become damaged internally and cause the front wheels to lock-up.

“Wheel lock-up while driving increases the risk of a crash,” the GM recall says.

So far, GM has identified 115 field reports alleging a lock-up potentially related to the transmission issue, including one alleged accident. GM is not currently facing a legal action due to this recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they can sometimes result in legal action.

GM offers free fix, recall says

To fix the issue, dealers will install transmission control module monitoring software, free of charge, GM says. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed April 21, 2025.

In January, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration launched a preliminary investigation into almost 878,000 General Motors vehicles following multiple complaints of engine failures.

The probe targets specific models from the 2019-2024 production years, including Chevrolet Silverado, GMC Sierra, Chevrolet Tahoe, Chevrolet Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade trucks and SUVs equipped with the L87 V8 engine.
