Financial Education Services settlement

The FTC sent more than $10.9 million in refund checks to eligible consumers who paid a credit repair operation known as Financial Education Services between May 2019 and May 2022.

The agency claimed FES failed to deliver on promises to clean up peoples’ credit, while illegally charging them upfront for its services.

FES, which also went under United Wealth Education and United Wealth Services, was also accused of falsely promising people they could make large amounts of money selling credit repair services to other customers or recruiting them to become agents.

The FTC sent 443,048 refund checks in total. Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash the check within 90 days.

Invitation Homes settlement

The FTC sent more than $47.2 million in refund checks to eligible consumers who the agency argued paid Invitation Homes for undisclosed fees or deceptive and unfair charges between January 2021 and September 2024.

The agency claimed Invitation Homes charged renters undisclosed fees for things like utility management and smart home technology, despite advertising one lean price.

Invitation Homes was further accused of charging deceptive and unfair charges at move out, including for normal wear and tear, pre-existing damages and even renovations.

The FTC sent 444,131 refund checks in total. Consumers who receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days. Anyone who already received a credit or refund from Invitation Homes is not eligible to benefit from the settlement.

WealthPress refunds

The FTC sent a second round of payments totaling more than $177,000 to consumers who accepted a previous payment and who paid investment advice company WealthPress $2,500 or more.

The second round of payments are the result of a lawsuit filed against WealthPress by the FTC over claims the company sold its investment advice under the false claims that its clients would make a lot of money.

The FTC previously sent more than $978,000 in refund payments in April 2024 and sent out a total of 6,290 payments in March. Consumers who receive a check are asked to cash it within 90 days, while those who get a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.

Restoro-Reimage refunds

The FTC sent refund checks to consumers who paid for computer repair services from tech support companies Restoro and Reimage, and who didn’t accept a PayPal payment sent in March 2025.

The checks are the result of a settlement agreed to by Restor and Reimage to resolve FTC claims that the companies used misleading online ads and fake Microsoft Windows pop-up screens to scare people into paying for computer repair services.

The FTC’s initial PayPal payments resulted in more than $13.1 million in refunds. Consumers who now receive a refund check are asked to cash it within 90 days.

Pyrex refunds

The FTC sent PayPal payments to consumers who bought Pyrex glass measuring cups, and who didn’t cash a previous refund check sent to them by the FTC in October 2024.

The PayPal payments are the result of a settlement agreed to by Instant Brands to end FTC claims the company sold Pyrex measuring cups on Amazon.com during the pandemic that were advertised as made in the United States, despite some being imported from China.

The FTC’s initial refund checks resulted in more than $43,700 in refunds. Consumers who now receive a PayPal payment are asked to accept it within 30 days.
