Black Sheep Egg Company has announced a recall of its Free Range Large Grade A Brown Eggs, packaged in 12- and 18-count cartons, due to potential Salmonella contamination. The recall affects eggs with Best By dates from Aug. 22 to Oct. 31, 2025.
The recall was initiated on Sept. 29 following a Food and Drug Administration (FDA) inspection that found 40 environmental samples positive for Salmonella, including seven strains known to cause human illness.
The affected eggs, bearing universal product codes 860010568507 and 860010568538, were distributed in Arkansas and Missouri, with the possibility of repackaging by other companies.
“The FDA is issuing an alert to recommend that consumers, retailers and distributors not eat, sell or serve the recalled Black Sheep Egg Company products,” the recall notice states.
Consumers are advised to check their refrigerators for these products and discard them if found. The FDA emphasizes the importance of cleaning and sanitizing any surfaces or containers that may have come into contact with the recalled eggs to prevent cross-contamination.
Consumers urged to discard potentially contaminated eggs
The FDA has warned that the recalled eggs from Black Sheep Egg Company may still be present in consumers’ homes, posing a risk of Salmonella infection.
Symptoms of Salmonella infection typically appear 12 to 72 hours after consumption and can include diarrhea, fever and abdominal cramps.
The FDA’s inspection of Black Sheep Egg Company’s processing facility revealed several strains of Salmonella, prompting the recall. “FDA does not have information available at this time to suggest that this firm is the source of an ongoing outbreak,” the recall notice clarifies. However, the potential risk has led to a broad advisory against consuming the affected eggs.
Black Sheep Egg Company is actively working to remove the potentially contaminated products from the market by contacting its direct customers. It has also issued a public alert to ensure that any remaining products in consumer homes are identified and discarded.
For more information on the recall, consumers can visit the FDA’s website or contact Black Sheep Egg Company directly at +1 870-637-1222. The FDA also provides guidelines on egg safety and handling to help consumers prevent Salmonella infection.
Black Sheep Egg Company says it has not received any reports of illness or injury related to the recall so far. The company is not currently facing legal action over the recall, but Top Class Actions follows recalls closely as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
In June, August Egg Company recalled more than 1.7 million cartons of shell eggs over potential Salmonella contamination, affecting several states, including Arizona, California and Illinois.
