older woman experiencing knee painPatients who needed revision surgery after the failure of their Exactech Optetrak implant may be eligible for a Exactech knee replacement lawsuit.

The makers of the Exactech Optetrak knee replacement system were faced with an Exactech knee replacement lawsuit this January when plaintiff Diane S. filed her lawsuit against them. Diane claims that her Exactech knee implant failed prematurely, forcing her to undergo an additional surgery to remove and replace the defective implant.

“The components of the device were defective, unreasonably dangerous and failed, resulting in loosening, malpositioning of the implant, and rubbing/wear of the components causing instability, limited mobility, swelling and pain,” the Exactech knee replacement lawsuit states. “This was initially discovered upon revision surgery on the Plaintiff’s left knee.”

Diane’s Exactech knee replacement lawsuit is not the first of its kind. Exactech faces a growing number of similar lawsuits alleging that the manufacturer knew or should have known that the knee replacement system was faulty and defective but continued to allow it to be sold and implanted into unknowing patients.

According to Diane’s Exactech knee replacement lawsuit and others, Exactech allegedly knew about the defective nature of the knee implant as early as 2012. In 2012, researchers reportedly published a study in Orthapaedics and Traumatology which warned that the Exactech knee implant could fail after only 25 months.

In 2016, an Australian joint registry released that the Exactech knee implant had extremely high failure rates as early as three years after implantation. At five years, the Exactech implant tied for first for the worst failure rate at 6.6%. At seven years, the Exactech implant had the worst failure rate at 7.9%.

The defect related to the knee system seems to be related to the finned tibial tray component of the implant, the Exactech knee replacement lawsuit states.

According to complaints similar to Diane’s Exactech knee replacement lawsuit, adverse reports have been filed with the FDA since its release onto the market. However, instead of initiating a public, voluntary recall, Exactech allegedly initiated a “silent recall” by slowly replacing the defective finned tibial tray components with sturdier “fit” tibial trays.

The Exactech knee replacement system has been on the market since 1994 when it was approved by the FDA. In 2015, Exactech allegedly made $70 million in sales from its knee implant.

The Exactech knee replacement lawsuit claims that Exactech keeps the defective knee replacement system on the market because it is a large source of income for the company.

Numerous knee replacement lawsuits have been filed regarding the Exactech Optetrak knee replacement system. Other knee replacement systems facing legal action include the DePuy Synthes Attune knee replacement system and the Arthrex iBalance knee replacement system.

If you or a loved one had to undergo early revision surgery due to component failure from the Exactech Optetrak implant, you may qualify for an Exactech knee replacement lawsuit. Patients who required revision surgery after failure of the DePuy Synthes Attune or Arthrex iBalance knee replacement systems may also qualify for legal action.

A knee replacement failure lawsuit could help recover compensation for pain and suffering, medical expenses, loss of wages, loss of consortium, permanent disability, and more.

Diane’s Exactech Knee Replacement Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-00046-CB in the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania.
