Essure Sterilization Procedure Linked to Serious Side EffectsMore women have come forward to complain about the dangerous side effects of the Essure sterilization procedure. Women claim that they were never properly warned in advance about the risks and were left to cope with the resulting medical problems, pain, and, additional costs for treatment.

Some of these women have taken legal action against the makers of the Essure over side effects of the sterilization procedure.

When the Essure sterilization procedure originally came on the market, it was applauded as a new device that could help women who were seeking safe and permanent sterilization options.

However, many of the women who went through the Essure sterilization procedure began to report problems and side effects. Some common problems emerged in reports from women who received the device and many of these patients allege they were never told about the possibility of these risks.

Some of the side effects reported by the Essure sterilization procedure recipients include organ perforation, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, bloating, rashes, pelvic pain, and allergic reactions. Some of these women have filed a lawsuit against the device maker claiming that the manufacturer should have known about the risks and failed to disclose these safety concerns to the medical community and to patients.

Since Essure is the only non-surgical sterilization method on the market today and since it was originally approved by the FDA in 2002 through the fast-track review system, a majority of the patients with this device might not even know they are at risk of severe side effects. Women who have filed lawsuits about the dangers of this device claim that the manufacturer should be held accountable for failing to provide appropriate safety information upfront, instead leaving the women with the devastating side effects.

Since the device was originally approved for the market, more than 4,500 negative event reports have been filed with the FDA over the Essure sterilization device and more continue to be filed. The maker, Bayer, is accused of either knowing about these dangerous side effects and failing to disclose them in the warning materials or of failing to do sufficient research and clinical testing on the device that might have revealed these issues before bringing it to market.

Any woman who began to experience unexplained issues after receiving the Essure device should discuss options directly with their physician.

Additionally, filing a lawsuit to hold the manufacturer accountable could be the best way for an injured person to obtain compensation for their pain and suffering. A growing number of lawsuits target the makers of medical devices that come with critical side effects. Without proper warnings, patients cannot make informed decisions, and this often leads to legal action.

In general, Essure lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
