Eliquis Severe BleedingPfizer Inc. and Bristol Myers Squibb are facing a new Eliquis lawsuit from an Arizona man alleging serious internal bleeding injuries.

The man claims the companies failed to warn him against Eliquis severe bleeding, and that the companies are liable for his injuries.

Plaintiff Robert B. is filing legal action against the drug companies, after allegedly experiencing Eliquis severe bleeding.

Robert was prescribed Eliquis in November 2013 to treat his atrial fibrillation. At all times during his prescription, Robert had only used Eliquis for its intended treatment purpose and had followed all prescription instructions.

However his prescription ended in January 2015, when he reportedly suffered an Eliquis severe bleeding incident.

In addition, Robert followed the advice of his physician and had no reason to expect any possibility of Eliquis severe bleeding. Robert was prescribed Eliquis to prevent blood clot formation, but still had to be hospitalized due to the medication side effects, he claims.

Overview of Eliquis Severe Bleeding Complications

Eliquis was approved by the FDA in 2012, and was the third medication to join the new generation anticoagulant family. These medications were developed to compete against original anticoagulant warfarin, and were the first drugs approved for blood thinning treatment purposes since the 1960s.

With the release of Pradaxa in 2010, other pharmaceutical companies followed suit and tried their hand in the anticoagulant market. Anticoagulants work by inhibiting the body’s clotting mechanism and increase the overall circulation flow in the body.

However, the body’s ability to recover from internal bleeding becomes compromised and can lead to potentially fatal results. For generations, warfarin was the only anticoagulant available to patients for many years but had required patients to undergo frequent dose adjustments.

The new generation anticoagulants capitalized on this convenience, giving patients the option of being prescribed a single dose. However warfarin is still the only anticoagulant available with a readily available bleeding antidote, which reverses the effects of internal bleeding injuries.

At this time, there is no approved reversal agent to treat Eliquis severe bleeding. Even though Elqiuis was approved at the time Pradaxa and Xarelto were facing allegations of uncontrollable internal bleeding, Pfizer and Bristol Myers allegedly failed to warn against these complications.

Patients alleged the companies knew about the possibility of Eliquis severe bleeding, but did nothing to warn consumers. Robert states that he never would have used the medication if he had known that Eliquis severe bleeding was a possibility.

Robert is filing this Elqiuis lawsuit seeking multiple damages, including negligence and failure to warn.

The Eliquis Severe Bleeding Lawsuit is Case No. 4:16-cv-00802, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Arizona.
