Electrolux refrigerator class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: Plaintiff David Stern filed a class action lawsuit against Electrolux Home Products Inc.
- Why: Stern claims Electrolux sold certain refrigerators with a defect that causes their drawers and shelving to repeatedly break and fall apart.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in New York federal court.
A new class action lawsuit alleges Electrolux Home Products Inc. sold certain refrigerators with a defect that causes their drawers and shelving to repeatedly break and fall apart within months of purchase.
Plaintiff David Stern’s class action lawsuit claims the defect requires numerous service calls and repairs and causes consumers to have to repurchase the defective parts, which only break again shortly thereafter.
“The essential function of a refrigerator is to be able to safely store the food purchased in a cold environment until the owners are ready to prepare meals and eat the food purchased,” the Electrolux class action says.
Stern wants to represent a nationwide class of consumers who own or have owned certain Electrolux refrigerators containing a defect that causes the shelving and drawers to break prematurely and continuously.
Electrolux sold refrigerators with defect since 2015, class action alleges
Stern argues Electrolux sold refrigerators with the alleged defect to thousands of consumers throughout the United States “as early as” 2015.
Electrolux knew — or was reckless in not knowing — at or before the time it sold the first unit that the refrigerators contained the defect and that the shelving and drawers would fail prematurely due to the defect, the Electrolux refrigerator class action alleges.
“Notwithstanding this knowledge, Electrolux made uniform and material misrepresentations and uniformly concealed material information in its marketing, advertising and sale of the Refrigerators, which Electrolux knew to be defective, both at the time of sale and on an ongoing basis,” the Electrolux class action states.
Stern claims Electrolux is guilty of fraudulent concealment, breach of implied and express warranties, negligent misrepresentation, unjust enrichment and breach of good faith and fair dealing, and of violating New York’s General Business Law.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of compensatory, statutory and/or treble damages for himself and all class members.
In 2022, Stern filed a similar class action lawsuit against Electrolux. However, in 2024, Stern’s claims were thrown out by a New York magistrate judge who granted the company’s motion to dismiss.

Four shelving brackets/retainer bars all broke (the two original ones and two replacements). Frigidaire said they are “ornamental” therefore not covered under warranty. (!)
Can someone start a new class action lawsuit? My Frigidaire refrigerator Made in Mexico LFSS2612TF4
Serial No: 4A10121010 has been broken since day 1. The drawers have all cracked and fallen off, the refrigerator light broke, the freezer cracked inside, and now it’s leaking water all over my kitchen floor and doesn’t freeze or cool my food.
Add me
I’m sure if I would have actually been able to use my Frigidaire model #grsc2352af, the drawers would have broken. But I was never really able to put food in mine. The freezer side of my refrigerator broke down after 20 days of delivery. It was repaired and then proceeded to break down 4 more times over the next 4 months. It was finally deemed irreparable by a “mater technician” and met Frigidaire’s no lemon guarantee requirements. I was given a file number and told they would reach out to me in 5-10 business days. They never reached out and when I called their 1-800 number, the agents told me someone would call or email – but neither happened. This has been going on for a total of 200+ days and the company is now leaving me high and dry. I’ve filed a BBB complaint, a complaint with the NCDOJ (where their parent company Electrolux is based) and am now disputing the charge with my credit card. I hope Frigidaire is forced to face judgement for their poor products and customer support. What they are doing is not right.
I do have on note the topic of the drawers: the protective film that was on the refrigerator upon delivery peeled off the silverware finish in spots when removing.
I’ve hated this refrigerator since we purchased it. The freezer shelf basket constantly pops out and causes the freezer to not close completely. leading to it frosting up. When do you get is closed the right side doesn’t sit flush also allowing frost to be created. The French door weatherstrips are failing
Yes I have 3shelves broke of as now and have replaced two to have them break again
