EcoShield fees class action lawsuit overview:
- Who: A consumer filed a class action lawsuit against EcoShield Pest Solutions, The Shield Companies, Shield Co Management LLC, and others.
- Why: The plaintiff claims EcoShield charges customers an unauthorized cancellation fee when ending their subscription service.
- Where: The class action lawsuit was filed in Colorado federal court.
A new nationwide class action lawsuit alleges EcoShield Pest Solutions charges its customers a costly and unauthorized cancellation fee if they try to end their subscription with the pest control company.
Plaintiff Patrick Shaffer claims EcoShield charges the fee despite it not being mentioned in the company’s service agreement. He argues the pest control company should only charge a set fee for each extermination visit.
“Nevertheless, when customers like Plaintiff try to cancel EcoShield’s subscription, they are charged a costly cancellation fee,” the EcoShield fees class action says.
Shaffer wants to represent a nationwide class of anyone who entered into a service agreement with EcoShield and were later charged a cancellation fee despite having subscribed for at least one year.
Class action claims EcoShield threatens customers with collections
Shaffer argues EcoShield threatens to send its customers to collections if they contest the unauthorized cancellation fee. He alleges this fee is “disguised” as a supposed discount on the cost of the initial service visit.
“EcoShield then gives the customer a Hobson’s choice: repay the discount as a condition of cancellation or continue the unwanted subscription,” the EcoShield fees class action says.
Shaffer claims EcoShield is guilty of breach of contract, unjust enrichment and other violations of the Colorado Consumer Protection Act and the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial, damages and other compensations of no less than $5.5 millions dollars.
In other pest-related news, a consumer filed a lawsuit against Spectrum Brands and its subsidiary United Industries in January 2025 over claims the companies’ Hot Shot Bedbug & Flea Fogger is ineffective against bed bugs.

I worked in the door-to-door pest control industry for five years. Never for Ecoshield, but for a company that thrived on deception. I would love to share this information if it helps.
They are actively doing this to me right now. They called my wife this morning and basically bullied her into her agreeing that they can show up tomorrow or else we pay a cancellation fee. For an appointment we didn’t make. I called to cancel and am “answering service” answered and the lady said she can’t cancel but she can send a message to have them cancel.
Allegedly we signed something and are in a year long contract but we never agreed to any of that. In fact, last time I talked to them they said they won’t make an appointment again. But here they go again making automatic appointments and forcing them on us.
Same here. Always “working on your neighbor “Bills” house who we don’t know”. We were told $189/yr after discount was applied, and then come to find out once the final paperwork was sent that it is $149/quarter and you can only cancel within like 3 days of signing the contract or you have to pay $250. Very pushy sales tactics, would not leave us alone after we told them we weren’t interested. Hesitantly I signed up because we did need some sort of pest control but the way we were told what it costs vs what it actually does was very vague and shady. We are located in Indiana. We also have no trespassing signs up which were ignored. Shady company who pray on young kids to do the rounds. I’m not sure the actual guy who came to spray for pests had an IQ over 9.
I was charged more than the original estimate, then I was not told about being charged for the service after the 30 day incubation period. When I complained and told them to take my name off their list of customers I was charged the early termination fee.
We got caught in the fine print and were forced to finish out a 1 year contract. We finished that contract in April 2025 and I got a text message July 15th that I would be receiving a service on July 18th. I was told today July 17th that are card was still on file and unless the account was closed they would still provide services and charge our card even without a contract. When I asked how that was legal the representative Derek said he was not able to answer that question. He also said he couldn’t cancel so we wanted 24 minutes to talk to a customer service solution representative who put us on hold again to verify that our contract was up in April despite my having a copy and the original representative stating it was over.
Same story as everyone – crappy service, weird sales tactics, then I can’t cancel without paying a fee. And then they threatened collections on me. I love it here.
After one treatment and two follow-up trips to resolve the issues because the rep was repeatedly missing three Yellowjacket nests on my property, I cancelled. I was never told about a cancellation fee and never agreed to it. I advised them I would not pay it and had withdrawn my credit card so no auto charges would be made. I paid for 3 months treatments in advance but they refuse to offer any refunds. Now I’m getting collection calls at 6 am in the morning trying to collect the cancellation fee. Don’t do business with these people!
The Eco-Shield sales guy walked right up to my driveway (there is a NO TRESPASSING sign) and used the tactic saying they were working on the neighbors houses in the area, with the same pitch i see in all these negative reviews. They came back the next day, a different person, and went around knocking down spider webs and spraying some weird chemical on the house siding. 30 minutes later they needed a credit card again, i guess the first one didn’t work but they had to leave the area to get a signal to charge it, anyways they are saying now that they never got paid and are asking for another card, threatening to send me to collections if i don’t answer their calls/messages. THERE ARE DEFINITELY MORE BUGS HERE AFTER WHATEVER THEY DID. i don’t know what i signed, they were very pushy/aggressive, asking me if my friend that was over was my wife? i haven’t answered them yet, what should i do?
I currently use EcoShield.
I had my daughters the day two shield salesmen came to the door. They were nice enough, and I didn’t want to take away time with my kids, so I signed up. After the first treatment the ants got worse! They said it might happen due to the egg cycle. So I waited for the first month treatment. From that day on, I’ve seen more ants than ever. Called to cancel, was told I’d have to pay almost 300 to cancel! Spent well over an hour on the phone before I was finally able to cancel! They charged me 300 to cancel which I’m not paying period. Their products don’t work and this company is a scam! I will NEVER answer the door for a solicitor again.
