Haagen-Dazs recall overview:

  • Who: Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream Inc. is recalling a limited number of Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars.
  • Why: The product may contain undeclared wheat, posing a risk to those with wheat allergies or sensitivities.
  • Where: The recall is active in the United States, specifically in states where Kroger and Giant Eagle stores are located.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream Inc. is recalling certain Häagen-Dazs Chocolate Dark Chocolate Mini Bars due to the presence of undeclared wheat. The Häagen-Dazs recall affects products distributed to Kroger and Giant Eagle stores across various states.

The recall was announced on Nov. 3 and involves the 6-count packages of the mini bars with batch code LLA519501 and a Best By date of Jan. 31, 2027. The issue arose when products containing wheat were mistakenly packed into packaging that did not declare wheat as an ingredient, according to the recall notice.

The affected Häagen-Dazs mini bars were shipped to Kroger stores in states including Alabama, California, and Ohio, among others, and to Giant Eagle stores in Indiana, Maryland, and Pennsylvania.

“Those with an allergy or severe sensitivity to wheat run the risk of serious or life-threatening allergic reaction if they consume these products,” the recall says.

Consumers urged to check packaging for batch codes

The recall notice advises consumers with wheat allergies or sensitivities to avoid consuming the affected mini bars. Instead, they should dispose of the product or return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.

The company is working closely with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to manage this voluntary recall.

Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream is taking steps to address the issue by ensuring that packaging accurately reflects the product contents to prevent future occurrences. The company has expressed its commitment to maintaining the safety, quality, and integrity of its products and has apologized for any inconvenience caused to consumers and retail partners.

In September, DFA Dairy Brands recalled 324 cartons of Friendly’s Cookies & Cream Ice Cream also due to a packaging error and the possibility of undeclared soy and wheat allergens.
