DePuy Orthopaedics is facing a new metal hip implant failure lawsuit from an Arizona woman who alleges their Pinnacle device had caused her numerous problems.
According to the metal hip implant failure lawsuit, the Pinnacle Device had caused her to develop metallosis and other serious health impairment that had eventually forced her to have the hip implant removed.
Plaintiff Trinidad M. is filing this metal hip implant failure lawsuit against DePuy Orthopaedics, for the injuries she alleged suffered from their Pinnacle metal on metal hip implant.
She had the Pinnacle implanted on May 14, 2010, after undergoing complete hip replacement surgery in her right hip. Several months later on Aug. 24, 2010, Trinidad underwent the same procedure for her left hip and had the same all metal hip implant implanted.
However soon after the surgery, Trinidad reportedly suffered friction and wear from the all metal components of the hip implants. Due to the metallosis, or blood metal poisoning, the surrounding bone and tissue of the implants became inflamed and caused her to feel pain from the most basic of movements.
Eventually Trinidad had to have the right hip implant explanted on July 19, 2013, while she had the left hip implanted removed on Dec. 20, 2012.
According to her metal hip implant failure lawsuit, Trinidad had used both Pinnacle devices for their intended purpose and had followed all instructions from her physicians.
At no point in time did DePuy warn her or her physicians against metal hip implant complications, so she had no reasonable way to expect any problems with her implants.
More Hip Implant Failure Lawsuit Allegations
As mentioned before the Pinnacle device is an all metal hip implant, which is commonly used for hip replacement surgeries.
Like other hip implant manufacturers, DePuy had advertised the Pinnacle to be an effective and superior implant choice to Trinidad and other patients undergoing hip implant surgery.
All metal hip implants are often advertised to be superior over their ceramic or plastic counterparts, for their durability and customizable features. However the all metal ball and socket joints of the devices shed metal ions into the blood stream, resulting in blood metal poisoning, inflammation, tissue damage, pain, and device failure.
Trinidad allegedly experienced these problems after having the Pinnacle devices implanted, resulting in her filing this metal hip implant failure lawsuit. She alleges DePuy allegedly knew or should have known the risks their product imposed, and that they had failed to properly disclose the risks.
Trinidad states that if she had known of the risks of metallosis and other metal hip implant complications, then she never would have had the Pinnacle devices implanted. Trinidad is filing this metal hip implant failure lawsuit against DePuy for negligence, false advertising, and concealing information.
The DePuy Hip Implant Failure Lawsuit is Case No. 3:16-cv-02026, in the U.S. District Court of Northern Texas, Dallas Division.
