Davol Inc. is facing a new Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit from an Ohio couple, alleging the wife suffered serious hernia mesh complications as a direct result of the company’s defective product.
The couple filed this Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit after discovering the company either knew or should have known that the Ventrio ST Mesh allegedly was defective in nature and presented unreasonable risks to patients.
Plaintiff couple Kelli A. and Kenneth A. are jointly filing this Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit, alleging the defective hernia mesh product permanently impacted their marriage and quality of life.
The Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit further alleges the device induced permanent injuries which they believe could have been avoided if Kelli’s physician had been presented correct facts. Kelli’s physician had recommended the Ventrio ST Mesh after reviewing marketing materials presented by the company.
The marketing materials allegedly presented Ventrio ST Mesh as a good choice for Kelli’s condition, with the device made of a polypropylene material designed for hernia repair. With these benefits in mind, Kelli says, she underwent hernia repair on Feb. 17, 2015 and suffered no initial hernia mesh complications.
However, Kelli reportedly began suffering hernia mesh complications and was forced to seek medical treatment. According to the Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit, Kelli had to undergo revision surgery on Aug. 5, 2016 to have the device removed.
The Ventrio ST Mesh patch had to be removed due to severe inflammatory response and was causing severe pain, Kelli says. The Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit further noted that the device was “hard and contracted” and caused adhesions, along with device failure, and severe pain.
Even with the revision surgery, Kelli says she continues to suffer hernia mesh complications and will most likely require additional surgeries to treat the damages. Kelli and her husband opted to file the Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit after discovering Davol Inc. and parent company C.R. Bard may have known about the defective nature of the Ventrio ST Mesh.
Overview of Hernia Mesh Complications
Surgical mesh has been used for hernia repair for decades, but patients have been recently reporting serious device complications. Many hernia mesh products like the Ventrio ST Mesh are made from a polypropylene material which is meant to induce inflammation in the surrounding tissue. This allows for smooth hernia repair with the body utilizing the mesh as extra support.
The inflammation is meant to eventually settle down, but some cases have reportedly developed into infection. Hernia mesh infections often consist of biofilms, which are cultures of antibiotic resistant bacteria. Oftentimes patients who develop these hernia mesh complications need revision surgery to resolve the problems.
Even though these hernia mesh complications can compound the patient’s medical condition, manufacturers allegedly failed to warn the general public. At all times relevant, Kelli and her physician had been relying on the marketing statements made by Davol Inc.
The couple claims that at no point in time did Davol Inc. or C.R. Bard contact Kelli or her physician to warn her against potential complications linked to the Ventrio ST Mesh. Kelli states she would not have agreed to have the Ventrio ST Mesh implanted if she had known about the potential hernia mesh complications.
Kelli and Kenneth are filing this Ventrio hernia patch lawsuit seeking serious damages, including multiple counts of negligence and failure to warn.
