protein-powder-spikingA growing number of disappointed customers are filing false advertisement lawsuits against protein powder manufacturers over protein powder spiking practices. Plaintiffs claim that manufacturers use protein powder spiking, among other tactics, to falsely advertise their products as containing more protein than they actually do.

Protein Powder Spiking

Protein powder spiking
is a method of manipulating these products to register higher levels of protein content than they actually contain. Companies include additives, such as amino acids, in their protein powder supplements to inflate their numbers.

A number of companies have been involved in allegations over protein powder spiking and other false advertising claims. Products that have been implicated in protein powder spiking allegations or other methods of false advertising include, but are not limited to, the following protein powder products:

  • Core Formulations Core 8 & IsoCore
  • Rogue Nutrition Rogue Whey
  • BioHealth Nutrition Precision Blend & Precision Iso

Protein Powder False Advertising Class Action Lawsuits

Protein powder manufacturers including Core Formulations, BioHealth, and Rogue Nutrition have become wrapped up in protein powder spiking allegations. False advertising lawsuits against protein powder manufacturers claim that their products contain substantially less protein than the companies advertise.

According to protein powder false advertising lawsuits that have been filed so far, these companies used protein powder spiking and other methods of false advertising, in order to take advantage of their customers and maximize company profit. Another method of false advertising allegedly used on these protein powder products is mislabeling — that is, labeling products with incorrect information about their contents.

So how dramatically did protein powder spiking and other false advertising methods shift the information on these products’ labels as opposed to their actual contents? An independent lab tested the contents of these protein powder products to find out how substantial the disparity really is.

According to the lab’s test results, Rogue Nutrition Rogue Whey contains 19.7 grams rather than 28 grams of protein shown on the product label; Core Formulations contains 20.4 grams instead of 31 grams; and BioHealth Precision Iso contains 17.5 grams rather than 27 grams.

Protein powder spiking lawsuits also claim that manufacturers use false labeling to inflate their product’s protein content. For instance, the Core Formulations Core 8 protein powder shows this rather unconvincing message on its label: “NO PROTEIN SPIKING!! NO useless AMINO spikes like ‘Amino Acid Complex’ or ‘Taurine’. ONLY 100% WHEY PROTEIN.”

While consumers pay a substantial sum for these products, they may believe due to the protein powder spiking and false advertising that they are paying for a protein product with significantly more protein than it actually contains. In fact, lawsuits claim that had plaintiffs known about the true protein content of the product, they would have not paid the premium price for the product, if they had even purchased it at all.

If you have purchased protein powder from Core Formulations or one of these other companies, you may be able to file a protein powder spiking lawsuit or class action lawsuit.
