The recall, announced on Dec. 24, 2025, affects products sold in several states across the United States. The affected products include 4 lb. bags of Country Vet Biscuits – Original Meaty Flavor and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits – Meaty Flavor with Chicken.
The recalled Country Vet Biscuits and Heartland Harvest Dog Biscuits carry the lot number 40906513 with an expiration date of Sept. 6, 2026, and can be identified by their universal product codes 899623000463 and 840227340691, respectively.
The dog biscuit recall was initiated after routine sampling conducted by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed the presence of salmonella in the finished products.
Salmonella poses health risks to both pets and humans, particularly if individuals do not thoroughly wash their hands after handling the contaminated products. Symptoms of salmonella infection in humans include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal cramping and fever, while pets may exhibit lethargy, fever and diarrhea.
“Consumers who have purchased any recalled products should discontinue use of the products and may return the unused portion to the place of purchase for a full refund,” the recall notice advises.
Dog biscuit recall urges pet owners to monitor for symptoms of salmonella
Consumers Supply Distributing has ceased production and distribution of the affected lot as it collaborates with the FDA to investigate the source of the contamination. No illnesses have been reported so far, but the company has taken proactive measures to prevent any potential health issues.
Consumers are urged to monitor their pets for symptoms of salmonella infection and contact a veterinarian if any signs are present.
Consumers Supply Distributing is working closely with the FDA to determine the cause of the contamination and prevent future occurrences.
