Handsome Brook Farms has recalled more than 10,000 cartons of eggs sold at Costco, as the eggs may be contaminated with Salmonella.

The Costco recall was published to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website on Nov. 27. It applies to 10,800 units of “Organic Pasture Raised 24-Count Eggs” sold under the Kirkland Signature brand.

According to the recall, the eggs have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems.

The recalled eggs were distributed to 25 Costco stores in the states of Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee from Nov. 22.

Recalled eggs were never intended for sale, notice says

The recall was initiated after the company determined that eggs not intended for retail distribution were packaged and distributed in retail packaging, the company said.

“Additional supply chain controls and retraining are being put in place to prevent recurrence,” the Costco recall says.

No customers have complained of illness related to the eggs so far, the company said.

The recalled eggs are packaged in plastic egg cartons labeled with Kirkland Signature on the top, with UPC 9661910680. The recall only applies to units with the Julian code 327 and a Use By Date of Jan 5, 2025, which can be found printed on the side of the plastic egg carton.

Anyone who purchased the recalled eggs should stop consuming the products and either dispose of them or return them to their local Costco store for a full refund.

Meanwhile, Red Toolbox has been hit with a class action lawsuit alleging it refuses to refund consumers who purchased a children’s toy that was recalled by the company in September due to it containing unsafe levels of lead.
