Costco issued a recall for a pair of Tillamook cheeses after gray and black plastic pieces were discovered in a limited quantity of the products.

The Costco recall involves 32 oz. twin-pack packages of Tillamook Colby Jack and Tillamook Monterey Jack cheese slices that were produced for Costco locations in the Northwest region and contain a “Best if Used By” date of Oct. 22, 2024.

Tillamook, in a letter to Costco members, said the recall was made in “an abundance of caution” and advised Costco members to refrain from eating the recalled Tillamook cheese slices and to return them to their local Costco to receive a full refund.

No action needed for customers who ate recalled cheese without issue, Costco recall says

Consumers who have already consumed the recalled Costco Tillamook cheeses and have not experienced an issue do not have to take action, according to the recall, which said the likely presence of foreign plastic material “is very minimal.”

“Through standard food safety and quality processes, Tillamook has identified a very small quantity of gray and black plastic pieces that may be present in a limited quantity of Monterey Jack Cheese,” the Costco recall says.

Consumers with more questions about the recall can contact Tillamook via email or by telephone at 855-562-3568.

Last year, Sunnyvale Smoked Meats recalled a Kirkland-brand half-ham product over concerns it was contaminated with listeria, while Orgain recalled one of its protein powder products sold at Costco over concerns it contained undeclared sesame.
