A new class action lawsuit claims that Dorel Home Furnishings sold Cosco kitchen steppers with a defective safety bar that can become detached or break.
Plaintiff Adam Sauer’s class action lawsuit claims Dorel Home Furnishings designed, marketed, distributed and sold the Cosco kitchen stepper with a defective safety bar.
The plaintiff argues the defendant marketed the Cosco kitchen steppers as being “designed with safety in mind.”
“To the contrary, these Products are inherently defective and create a serious safety risk, especially for children,” the Cosco class action lawsuit says.
Dorel Home Furnishings recalled 302,000 Cosco kitchen steppers
Dorel Home Furnishings recalled around 302,000 of the Cosco kitchen steppers on July 31, 2025, due to the safety bar defect, Sauer claims. The plaintiff argues Dorel Home Furnishings received more than 30 reports of the safety bar breaking or becoming detached, with two of the incidents involving head injuries.
Sauer claims Dorel Home Furnishings failed to offer any monetary relief to consumers who purchased the Cosco kitchen steppers with the allegedly defective safety bar.
“Defendant knew or should have known of this safety defect, yet it did nothing for years,” the Cosco class action lawsuit says. “Worse, Defendant specifically marketed these Products as safe for children.”
Sauer claims Dorel Home Furnishings is guilty of violating California’s Unfair Competition Law and Consumers Legal Remedies Act and of breach of implied warranties and negligent misrepresentation.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of compensatory, statutory, actual and/or monetary damages, including interest, for himself and all class members.
Last year, Home Design recalled more than 580,000 beds sold in the United States and Canada over concerns they could break, sag or collapse, posing a risk of falls or injury.
