pressure cooker explosion pressure cooker accidentConsumers across the country are being warned against potentially dangerous pressure cookers after several reports have indicated certain models may be prone to explosions. Recently, a class action lawsuit investigation was launched, after these consumer reports indicated potentially dangerous pressure cookers may be on the market.

According to reports by consumers, the alleged pressure cooker explosions could stem from a number of problems ranging from defective components to malfunction during use. Pressure cooker explosions have been linked to defective valves that allow pressure to continuously buildup without any limit or release.

Pressure cooker explosions have also reportedly occurred when safety mechanisms meant to make the product’s lids safely lock have failed, which is supposed to prevent the lid from opening until the pressure cooker has sufficiently depressurized.

These reportedly dangerous pressure cookers could potentially send boiling water and other contents onto consumers, causing second and third degree burns.

Overview of Potentially Dangerous Pressure Cookers

These reports of potentially dangerous pressure cookers had spurred consumer advocates to initiate the pressure cooker class action lawsuit investigation, which is open to consumers who purchased one of these allegedly defective products that ended up exploding.

If these consumers had purchased a defective pressure cooker or similar device that did not work as advertised and caused injuries from spontaneous explosion, then they may be eligible to join the investigation. Some of the reported dangerous pressure cookers apart of the investigation includes, but are not limited to:

  • Aldi
  • Crofton
  • Cuisinart
  • Maxi-Matic
  • Tristar
  • Wolfgang Puck

It is important to note that pressure cookers are potentially dangerous culinary products that can potentially cause serious injuries in case of malfunction.

Pressure cookers work by trapping steam inside using a sealed chamber, which is designed to increase internal pressure of the device up to 15 pounds per square inch (psi). As the pressure increases, the temperature inside the pressure cooker can get as high as 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

This can allow for the food to cook significantly faster than normal, but it also creates the risk of potential pressure cooker explosions. Due to the high pressure and hot temperature, the pressure cooker explosions can pose several significant risks to consumers including:

  • Pressure Cooker Explosions: Consumer reports have indicated potentially dangerous pressure cookers can suddenly explode, sending the lid flying off and releasing scalding hot water and food onto the consumer. Other consumers have alleged the contents of the pressure cooker suddenly exploded out of the device, when they depressurized the device and opened the lid when following instructions.
  • Pressure Cooker Steam Burns: The lids are supposed to be airtight and prevent steam, pressure, and heat from escaping from the device, but had instead been allegedly doing the opposite. Consumers have reported they were injured when the seal broke prematurely, causing significant steam burns.

Pressure cookers are found in kitchens throughout the country, with consumers having no reason to be wary of potential explosions. Critics say these potentially dangerous pressure cookers present unreasonable risks to the consumer market, risks that should be mentioned on the product’s warning label.

Consumers who may have been injured by pressure cooker explosions may be able to file legal action against manufacturing companies.
