C.R. Bard is facing a new Composix mesh lawsuit, which was recently filed by a man from Indiana alleging serious hernia mesh complications. The man opted to file this Composix mesh lawsuit after discovering other patients had suffered similar side effects and that the manufacturer may have been aware of the device’s allegedly defective nature.
Plaintiff Christopher E. alleges in his Composix mesh lawsuit that use of C.R.Bard’s Composix mesh caused him serious complications and required him to undergo revision surgery. Like millions of other patients, Christopher had opted for the Composix mesh product for hernia repair as it was designed to help the healing process.
The Composix mesh was designed to promote ingrowth in the surrounding tissue, which is supposed to encourage the damaged abdominal muscle to heal itself. However, Christopher allegedly suffered serious hernia mesh complications soon after the Composix mesh was implanted.
Overview of Composix Mesh Lawsuit
According to the Composix mesh lawsuit, Christopher had undergone hernia repair surgery on Sept. 4, 2012 and had the Bard Composix hernia mesh implanted. However, not long after the surgery, Christopher says he developed serious debilitating pain and had to seek medical treatment.
The Composix mesh lawsuit states that Christopher underwent revision surgery on June 27, 2016, to remove the infected hernia mesh product. During the procedure, the doctor performing the surgery noted there was abnormal discharge that was “emanating from the mesh cavity.”
The doctor found that the mesh was “pale yellow in color” and was additionally doubtful the entirety of the mesh could be removed in one surgery. According to the Composix mesh lawsuit, Christopher underwent a second revision surgery on Sept. 13, 2016, in which the rest of the infected mesh had been removed.
Even though these revision surgeries were performed successfully, Christopher still reportedly continues to suffer from debilitating hernia mesh complications including:
- Severe Abdominal Pain
- Swelling
- Inflammation
- Constipation
- Sleeplessness
- Hernia Recurrence
- Loss of Appetite
These complications have reportedly interfered with his daily life, and will most likely require additional surgeries to repair the damage allegedly caused by the Bard Composix hernia mesh. At all times relevant, Christopher and his physician had relied on the marketing statements and product information provided by C.R. Bard.
Hernia Mesh Product Complications
The Bard Composix hernia mesh is one of several hernia mesh products that have been linked to complications that were linked to allegedly defective hernia mesh.
Another one of these products is the Atrium C-Qur hernia mesh, which has been allegedly causing complications from the hernia mesh from its Omega-3 fatty acid coating. This coating is meant to spur inflammation in the hernia site to encourage healing, but has been allegedly causing infection in patients.
Early signs of hernia mesh infection can include lack of healing on the incision site and heat emitting from the incision, which is often followed by flu like symptoms. In the most serious cases, bacterial colonies resistant to antibiotics called biofilms form and require revision surgery to fix.
Even though these problems could be devastating to patients, patients say C.R. Bard allegedly failed to warn the general public against hernia mesh complications. Christopher is filing this Composix mesh lawsuit seeking multiple damages, including negligence and failure to warn.
This Composix Mesh Lawsuit is Case No. 1:18-cv-01938-WTL-DLP, in the U.S. District Court of Southern Indiana, Indianapolis Division.
