According to the DVD drive settlement, computer owners only have until Oct. 30, 2017 to file a claim, so qualifying Class Members should file today.

Filing a claim can be done online in just a few minutes and computer owners will receive $10 for every disk drive they purchased between Apr. 1, 2003 until Dec. 31, 2008.

The DVD drive settlement is not limited, so those who purchased multiple computers between 2003 and 2008 will receive a settlement payment for each computer they bought.

Popular computer brands like Apple Macintosh, Gateway, Dell, HP, Lenovo, Toshiba, Acer, Sony, Samsung, NEC, Razer, are covered by this settlement. Essentially, any desktop or laptop that included a DVD drive and was purchased between 2003 and 2008 is included in this settlement!

The class action lawsuit alleged that several electronics companies schemed to fix the prices of optical disk drives. Optical disk drives allow users to access data on optical disks, like DVDs and CDs. They are included in both laptop and desktop computers. Consumers can also purchase standalone disk drives that also qualify for the settlement.

Class Members include residents of Arizona, California, District of Columbia, Florida, Hawaii, Kansas, Maine, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wisconsin.

Computer owners in any of those states who purchased a laptop or desktop computer with an internal optical disk drive, a stand-alone optical disk drive designed for internal use in computers, and/or an optical disk drive designed to be attached externally to a computer must file a claim soon to get cash from this settlement.

The settlement is a result of decades long litigation over conspiracies by DVD drive manufacturers and computer companies to hike their prices at the expense of consumers. Litigation is still pending for some of the parties to the case and a trial date is set for February 2018.

The companies accused of entering into the price-fixing scheme are the BenQ Corporation, BenQ America Corp., Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., Toshiba Corp., Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corp., Toshiba Samsung Storage Technology Corp. Korea, and Quanta Storage Inc.

The settlement website is www.DollarsForDiskDrives.com/TCA. The online form takes mere minutes to complete and can be shared with friends and family who may have fallen victim to these electronic companies’ alleged price-fixing scam.

Be sure to include the total number of DVD drives purchased between Apr. 1, 2003 and Dec. 31, 2008. No proof of purchase is necessary.

Plaintiffs in the DVD drive settlement are represented by the law firm Hagens Berman Sobol Shapiro LLP.
