A range of children’s car seats have been recalled nationwide as their harness straps can break, putting kids at risk of injury.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration announced Feb. 14 that Columbus Trading-Partners issued a recall for several car seats due to the defect.
The recall applies to the Cybex Aton G, Aton G SensorSafe, Aton G Swivel, Aton G Swivel SensorSafe, Eos and Aton G Swivel Travel System, and Eos and Aton G Travel System car seats.
According to the recall, “harness hip anchorage retention hooks may bend, causing the anchor pin to loosen, and the harness strap to detach” potentially causing whiplash or other neck injuries.
“In the event of a vehicle crash, the detached harness would not properly restrain the occupant, increasing the occupant’s risk of injury,” the recall states.
Company to provide free repair kit, recall says
Consumers should expect a notification letter from Columbus Trading-Partners and will receive a remedy kit with installation instructions and a link to a video demonstration. The remedy kit includes a user-installed system that fixes the harness and the harness anchor pin in place.
Car seats have been at the center of numerous class action lawsuits and settlements. In 2023, a California federal judge gave final approval to a $852,360 settlement to end claims that Britax Child Safety Inc. sold defective child car seats that broke during car accidents.
That same year, Artsana agreed to a class action settlement to resolve claims that its Chicco KidFit booster seats are not as safe as advertised.
