A California plaintiff recently filed a lawsuit for Xarelto side effects, claiming that the blood thinner led to some serious and severe complications.
Plaintiff Melissa S., first ingested Xarelto in May 2014 and continued her usage through June 2014. Melissa discontinued her use of Xarelto after suffering from menorrhagia and abnormal uterine bleeding. She alleges that these are blood thinner side effects caused by Xarelto.
The lawsuit for Xarelto claims that Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Xarelto’s manufacturer, failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about the potentially serious blood thinner side effects associated with taking Xarelto.
The lawsuit for Xarelto alleges that the Melissa’s ingestion of Xarelto led to life-threatening bleeding, as well as other serious side effects. On top of physical problems, the plaintiff claims that she also suffered from mental anguish and high medical expenses.
The blood thinner lawsuit alleges that her ingestion of Xarelto caused not only serious gastrointestinal bleeding, but also led to physical pain and mental anguish. These side effects also necessitated hospitalization and medical treatment, so the plaintiff suffered from lost expenses as well.
The plaintiff claims that she suffered from this serious bleeding because of Xarelto, and had the plaintiff been properly informed of Xarelto’s potential dangers and side effects, she would not have taken Xarelto and could have avoided these severe side effects altogether.
The blood thinner lawsuit further claims that Xarelto was not adequately tested by Janssen, and the company sold the blood thinner without proper testing or warning for the potentially severe side effects.
The plaintiff filed this blood thinner lawsuit on thirteen counts, including design defect, failure to warn, and negligence, among others.
Xarelto Basics
Xarelto (rivaroxaban) is a popular anticoagulant medication developed and sold by Janssen, a subsidiary of Johnson & Johnson.
Xarelto was approved by the FDA in 2011, and is part of a class of drugs known as New Oral Anticoagulants. NOACs also include Pradaxa and Eliquis. This group was brought into the pharmaceutical market as replacement for warfarin in preventing stroke and systemic embolism problems.
Despite Janssen’s claims that Xarelto is capable of preventing dangerous clotting complications, this blood thinner lawsuit – and others like it – allege that the company’s fervent marketing misinformed patients and the medical community.
According to these Xarelto lawsuits, Janssen deliberately underplayed the drug’s safety and efficacy.
Xarelto Blood Thinner Side Effects
This Xarelto blood thinner lawsuit and others like it allege that recent studies and reports have revealed a link between Xarelto and major bleeding events, such as serious gastrointestinal bleeding.
Xarelto bleeding lawsuits claim that Janssen was not only aware of these studies and the bleeding risks of Xarelto, but failed to report these major bleeding complications as significant adverse effects. The blood thinner lawsuits further allege that Janssen failed to adequately warn consumers and the medical community about the major bleeding risk associated with Xarelto.
Despite the manufacturer’s alleged knowledge of these risks, the company continued to market Xarelto in a manner the lawsuit describes as negligent and misleading, diminishing the concern for the serious risks of the drug.
Xarelto Bleeding Lawsuits
Xarelto is currently facing hundreds of Xarelto bleeding lawsuits filed for patients who, after taking Xarelto, have experienced serious gastrointestinal bleeding, hemorrhaging, or other serious blood thinner side effects.
These Xarelto lawsuits claim that the drug makers failed to be completely transparent in the warnings for their product and the Xarelto blood thinner side effects. These cases also allege that the drug maker should be held accountable for not providing an approved antidote that could reverse the medication’s effects, given the potentially damaging Xarelto side effects many claim to have suffered.
