Benicar IBS gastrointestinal woman hospital bedDaiichi Sankyo is facing a new Benicar IBS lawsuit from a New York woman alleging the drug had caused her serious gastrointestinal injuries. The Benicar IBS lawsuit further claims she had no warning about Benicar IBS, since the drug’s warning label did not mention that risk.

Plaintiff Sherice D. is having her Benicar IBS lawsuit join federal multidistrict litigation (MDL) No. 2606, where it will stand alongside other Benicar IBS claims alleging similar injuries. Along with Sherice, her partner Antwan D. is also filing legal action for loss of consortium.

Like many other Benicar patients, Sherice was prescribed the medication to treat her high blood pressure and hypertension. Sherice says she began taking Benicar in 2011, and had only used the medication for its intended purpose and had followed all prescription instructions.

By taking Benicar, Sherice’s chances of cardiac attack are lowered and her lifespan is ultimately prolonged. However, it was not long after she started the medication that she began experiencing Benicar IBS, along with other gastrointestinal side effects including nausea and vomiting.

Benicar was approved by the FDA to reduce blood pressure in patients. It works by dilating the blood vessels. If used according to prescription instructions and combine it with healthy habits, patients should be able to live a longer life.

Sherice had filed this Benicar IBS lawsuit after learning Daiichi Sankyo may have taken deliberate action to conceal evidence of serious gastrointestinal side effects associated with Benicar.

Overview of Benicar IBS Allegations

These allegations stem from earlier studies that reported a correlation between Benicar and chronic gastrointestinal complications.

One of the most significant studies was conducted by the Mayo Clinic in August 2012. It highlighted 22 cases of Benicar patients exhibiting celiac disease symptoms including chronic diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, weight loss, and abdominal pain.

These results were eventually passed on to the FDA, which issued an official warning for Benicar IBS and other gastrointestinal side effects in July 2013. The agency stated there was “clear evidence” of a link between Benicar and gastrointestinal complications, with each of the Mayo Clinic patients testing negative for celiac disease.

After these results became public knowledge, numerous Benicar patients filed legal action against Daiichi Sankyo. Sherice and other patients allege the company either knew or should have known about potential Benicar IBS, but did not take proper precautions in warning patients.

Sherice states that she never would have used the medication if she had been aware of Benicar IBS.

This Benicar IBS Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-03709, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Jersey, Camden Division.
