A Mississippi woman has recently joined the Benicar multidistrict litigation as she has filed her Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit in New Jersey federal court.
Plaintiff Carolyn J. is a 55-year-old woman who began taking Benicar HCT (olmesartan) in 2004 to treat her high blood pressure.
She claims that she has suffered personal injury and economic loss as a result of Benicar side effects, according to the Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit.
As a result of taking Benicar HCT, Carolyn has suffered “serious gastrointestinal and/or colonic injuries, including not limited to villas atrophy, sprue-like enteropathy, colitis, kidney failure, malabsorption, malnutrition, dehydration, atrophy and/or symptoms of diarrhea, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain, and/or other related symptoms as well as medical expenses resulting from these injuries,” her Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit states.
Carolyn has brought forth 15 counts against Daiichi Sankyo and Forest Laboratories including: products liability for design defect and failure to warn, multiple counts of negligence, negligent design, negligent misrepresentation, fraudulent concealment, constructive fraud, fraud, breaches of express and implied warranties, unjust enrichment, violation of Mississippi consumer protection law and punitive damages.
In addition to seeking judgment against the Defendants, Carolyn is seeking compensatory damages, punitive damages, interest, costs of suit and any additional relief deemed just and proper by the court.
Benicar HCT Side Effects
The most severe side effects of Benicar affect the body’s gastrointestinal system.
Many patients visit their doctors with symptoms that appear to present like celiac disease, a severe allergy to the protein found in wheat, barley and rye. However, most patients test negative for this condition.
Doctors typically go on to diagnose conditions in these patients such as sprue-like enteropathy and villous atrophy. These conditions cause similar damage to the body like celiac disease.
They lead to poor gastrointestinal functioning which causes the patient to develop malnutrition that in turn causes systemic effects.
Severe, chronic diarrhea is also a side effect of Benicar. While diarrhea is a common side effect of many drugs, the diarrhea associated with Benicar can be so severe that it lands patients in the hospital.
Malnutrition and electrolyte imbalance can result from severe diarrhea, and sometimes patients must get intravenous hydration and nutrition in a hospital setting.
Filing a Benicar HCT Side Effects Lawsuit
Nearly every Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit alleges that the manufacturers failed to warn patients and physicians about the serious side effects associated with Benicar use.
Plaintiffs hope to recover damages they have suffered personally, medically, emotionally, socially and financially as a result of having taken Benicar.
If you have suffered severe gastrointestinal injuries as a result of having taken Benicar HCT, you may be eligible to file a Benicar HCT side effects lawsuit.
