Top Class Actions readers are starting to receive checks in the mail from a class action settlement stemming over allegations that Anheuser-Busch falsely advertised Beck’s beer by claiming that it’s “brewed in Germany” even though it’s actually brewed in the U.S.
According to reader comments and posts on the Top Class Actions Facebook page, Class Members who submitted timely and valid claims for the Beck’s beer settlement began receiving checks worth as much as $12 on July 2, 2016.
If you filed a claim for the Anheuser-Busch Beck’s beer class action settlement, keep an eye on your mailbox because you may be receiving your check soon!
The Anheuser-Busch class action settlement resolves allegations that the beer maker deceptively marketed Beck’s Pilsner, Beck’s Dark, Beck’s Light, and Beck’s Oktoberfest as being “brewed in Germany” and charging a premium price for it.
According to the class action lawsuit, Beck’s beer has been made in the U.S. since 2012 but the labels did not reflect this.
Anheuser-Busch tried to get the lawsuit dismissed stating that the term “product of USA” is printed on the packaging as well as the bottles/cans of Beck’s beer. However, a Florida federal judge found that the statements were either too small or too obscure for an average customer to see.
The beer manufacturer denied the allegations but agreed to settle the class action to avoid the expense and uncertainty of ongoing litigation.
In addition to paying Class Members up to $50 if they could provide a proof of purchase, Anheuser-Busch also agreed to change Beck’s beer labels to indicate that the beer is “brewed in the USA.”
Class Members of the Beck’s beer settlement included anyone in the U.S. who bought Beck’s Pilsner, Beck’s Dark, Beck’s Light, and/or Beck’s Oktoberfest between May 1, 2011 and June 23, 2015.
Those who submitted a valid and timely Claim Form without a proof of purchase were able to claim $12 per household.
The deadline to file a claim for the Beck’s class action settlement passed on Nov. 20, 2015.
