A new class action lawsuit claims Nuna sold RAVA convertible car seats with a dangerous defect that can cause the straps to loosen and put children’s safety at risk.
Plaintiff Mirza Baig claims more than 600,000 RAVA car seats have a defect where debris can fall into the front harness adjuster area, causing the straps to loosen.
Baig argues the defect is dangerous because it allows toddlers and children to loosen the straps of the car seat and even get out of it while a parent is driving.
“In the worst-case scenario, a child could be insecurely fastened during a car accident, leading to injury or even death,” the Nuna class action states.
Baig wants to represent a nationwide class and Virginia subclass of consumers who purchased a Nuna RAVA car seat manufactured between July 16, 2016, and Oct. 25, 2023.
Nuna car seat defect renders RAVA seats ‘worthless,’ class action claims
Baig claims Nuna knew or should have known about the defect, which he argues renders the RAVA car seats “worthless and unusable for their intended purpose of safely transporting babies, toddlers and young children.”
The plaintiff argues consumers who purchased the RAVA car seats received a defective and unsafe product that has experienced a significant loss in value and usable life due to the defect.
“Some consumers have resorted to purchasing substitute car seats,” the Nuna class action states.
The car seats were subject to a recall last year, but the plaintiffs claim the remedy kit and cleaning instructions were ineffective.
Baig claims Nuna is guilty of unjust enrichment, negligent misrepresentation and breach of express and implied warranty and is in violation of the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act and the Virginia Consumer Protection Act.
The plaintiff demands a jury trial and requests declaratory and injunctive relief and an award of actual, compensatory, statutory and punitive damages for himself and all class members.
Earlier, two consumers filed a class action lawsuit against Nuna for the same reason of selling convertible car seats for children with defective harness adjusters that can cause the harness to loosen.
