treatment for B-cell lymphomaA Pennsylvania man recently filed a new lawsuit against Monsanto, alleging that the company’s popular weedkiller product Roundup caused him to develop B-cell lymphoma cancer.

The plaintiff, John H., says he began using Roundup in the 1980s for personal landscaping at his home and his rental property for decades. Unfortunately, in 2009, John was diagnosed with B-cell lymphoma cancer, which he claims in the lawsuit is as a direct result of exposure to Roundup.

The lawsuit alleges that, for a long period of time, John was not aware of the risk of cancer associated with Roundup—and that his use of Roundup was dependent on this lack of knowledge. Monsanto allegedly promoted Roundup as being harmless for humans to use for more than three decades.

Notably, advertising often claimed that Roundup was “as safe as table salt” and “practically non-toxic” to animals.  However, John’s lawsuit claims that Monsanto was aware of the risk of B-cell lymphoma and other cancers from exposure to Roundup, but failed to warn the public of this risk.

John filed his Roundup B-cell lymphoma lawsuit on Aug. 17, 2018, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The lawsuit was filed on multiple counts, including design defect, failure to warn, negligence, and breach of express and implied warranties.

John’s wife, Jane, also filed on one count of loss of consortium, alleging that John was no longer able to perform the responsibilities and activities that he used to in the home and as her husband, and has also suffered lost wages and income.

John and Jane’s Monsanto lawsuit, along with countless others like it, alleges that the agricultural giant has misrepresented the use of Roundup as safe, despite being aware of the risk of cancer from their product.

Roundup Cancer Connection

The main ingredient of Monsanto’s popular weedkiller Roundup, glyphosate, has been linked with a number of types of Roundup cancer, including B-cell lymphoma.

Farm workers, as well as home gardeners like John, are among the most at risk of any Roundup side effects, given the common use of the product in these roles. A number of these individuals have filed lawsuits against Monsanto with allegations of Roundup cancer, claiming that they were diagnosed with one of several kinds of cancer after using Roundup.

The plaintiffs say they never expected to contract cancer, as Monsanto marketed their product as safe to humans and animals for decades.  However, back in 1996 New York Attorney General actually filed a lawsuit against Monsanto for making these kinds of statements, claiming they were deceptive and dangerous to customers, misleading them about the actual safety of the product.

The Environmental Protection Agency began to suspect a Roundup cancer connection in the 1980s. More than 20 years later, a report published in March 2015 by the IARC concluded that glyphosate (the active ingredient in Roundup) is linked with cancer.

Types of Roundup Cancer

Types of cancer that have so far been linked with the weedkiller include the following:

  • Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma
  • Leukemia
  • Multiple Myeloma
  • B-cell Lymphoma
  • Bone Cancer
  • Renal Cell Carcinoma (kidney cancer)
  • Other Cancers

If you or someone you love has been diagnosed with one of these cancers from Roundup use, you may be able to file a Monsanto lawsuit. While filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by cancer from Roundup or bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

John’s Roundup B-Cell Lymphoma Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 2:18-cv-03496-TJS, in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania.
