A California federal judge has granted final approval to a $15 million class action settlement between AT&T and California customers who were charged late payment fees for a residential landline. Certain AT&T customers have until Tuesday, Dec. 31, to file a claim to receive a cash award from the class action settlement. Other customers will automatically receive a credit to one of their future bills.
The AT&T landline class action settlement resolves allegations that Pacific Bell Telephone Co., which does business as AT&T in California, violated California consumer protection laws and other state laws by imposing late payment charges to residential landline telephone customers in California.
Class Members of the AT&T landline late fee settlement include all customers who currently have or had a California area code and billing address, and either are receiving or received residential landline telephone service from Pacific Bell or its affiliates, and paid one or more late payment charges imposed between July 15, 2009, up and through April 24, 2013.
The amount of money you can receive from the class action settlement will be based on how many total late payment charges you were assessed during the Class Period divided by the total number of fees assessed to current and former customers who submit timely Claim Forms.
If, as of April 24, 2013, you were a current customer of Pacific Bell/AT&T, you do not need to file a Claim Form; the refund will automatically be credited to one of your future bills.
If, as of April 24, 2013, you were a former customer of Pacific Bell/AT&T, you will need to file a Claim Form to receive a refund under the class action settlement. Your claim must be submitted by Dec. 31, 2013.
Detailed claim filing instructions can be found here in our Open Class Action Settlements section. Further information can be found at the Settlement Website: www.PBTCLateFeeSettlement.com.
