Atrium Medical Corporation is facing a new hernia mesh infection lawsuit after a Wisconsin husband allegedly experienced hernia mesh complications soon after implantation. The plaintiff couple filed the hernia mesh infection lawsuit after the husband reportedly suffered injuries due to the allegedly defective nature of the device.
Plaintiffs Steven S. and Regina S. are filing the hernia mesh infection lawsuit alleging Atrium Medical Corporation failed to warn them against potential side effects. Steven underwent hernia mesh implantation surgery on May 27, 2011, to repair an incisional hernia using the C-Qur V-Patch hernia mesh product.
With the C-Qur V-Patch hernia mesh product, Steven was supposed to regain full mobility and return to his typical routine. However on June 4, 2011, Steven began experiencing drainage from the incision site and had to take the antibiotic Cipro on a daily basis.
Just days later, Steven reported serious damage on the incision site with diagnostic testing revealing an infection. Following several appointments for follow-up treatment, the infection finally resolved.
Steven says he will eventually have to undergo revision surgery to correct the hernia mesh problems, and he has to contend with the daily pain of his infection. Steven and his wife are filing this hernia mesh infection lawsuit after learning of the devastating complications associated with the medical device.
Overview of Hernia Mesh Complications
Hernia mesh products have been used by the medical community for over 50 years to treat hernias that formed in patients. Surgical mesh is used for a variety of purposes, each of which involve supporting weakened muscle and tissue areas in the body.
Even though these mesh products are meant to help restore normalcy to the patient’s life, many patients have reported hernia mesh complications. Surgical mesh is made of polypropylene, which critics say may be prone to causing inflammation inside the implant site.
Inflammation raises the chances of tissue growth in and around the hernia mesh area and can potentially lead to infection. Infection can make hernia mesh become painful, and can also develop into dangerous flu-like symptoms like vomiting and fever.
The Atrium C-Qur hernia mesh product is considered particularly risky, as it is coated with an omega 3 fatty acid layer that can spur the immune system to react drastically. Even though these complications can be potentially devastating to patients, Atrium Medical Corporation allegedly failed to disclose this information to patients.
Steven and Regina are filing this hernia mesh lawsuit against the company for multiple counts of negligence and failure to warn.
This Hernia Mesh Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-00205, in the U.S. District Court for the District of New Hampshire.
