Amazon smoke detector warnings overview:

  • Who: The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission has warned consumers to immediately stop using OKEAH and PETRICOR, VARWANEO and WJZTEK combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.
  • Why: The CPSC is concerned the devices may fail to alert consumers to the presence of hazardous levels of smoke and carbon monoxide.
  • Where: The combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors were sold nationwide on Amazon.com

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has issued a warning to consumers to immediately stop using certain combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors sold on Amazon.com over concerns they do not work properly.

The CPSC said it is concerned the smoke and carbon monoxide combination devices could “fail to alert consumers to the presence of hazardous carbon monoxide and smoke.”

“If a combination smoke and CO detector that does not alert to the presence of an elevated level of carbon monoxide or smoke is installed in a home, and carbon monoxide or smoke enters the home, the consumer will not be warned of these harmful conditions, making injury or death very likely,” the CPSC said.

Included in the CPSC’s warnings last week are OKEAH Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors and PETRICOR, VARWANEO, and WJZTEK Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

Consumers urged to dispose of potentially defective combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

In its warning, the CPSC urges consumers not to purchase or sell the combination smoke and carbon monoxide detectors and to dispose of them immediately.

The OKEAH Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors were sold on Amazon.com for between $25 and $75, while the PETRICOR, VARWANEO and WJZTEK brand Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors were sold on the site for between $15 and $53.

The CPSC advises consumers to install new and working smoke and carbon monoxide detectors “on each level of their homes and outside separate sleeping areas” that are either battery operated or have a battery backup.

In January, the CPSC warned consumers to become educated on how to safely use furnaces, space heaters and fireplaces in their homes to avoid dangers associated with fire and carbon monoxide poisoning.

I purchased a few smoke detectors a few times. And I had a few problems with a few of them not working. Thought it could be the batteries. The items did works. I have spent thousands of dollars at Amazon. When I called Amazon for a refund. They said they would call the seller so I can get my money back. I called Amazon 3 times to see what was going on because they had said they would call me to keep me in the loop about my refund. I never got my refund. Also Amazon never even called me.
