Testosterone gel manufacturers AbbVie Inc. and Abbott Laboratories are being hit with an AndroGel lawsuit from an Alabama couple alleging major blood clot injuries. The husband claims that in direct result of the AndroGel side effects he suffered, he has to remain vigilant for any future cardiac complications.
Plaintiff couple Sylvanus and Phyllis O. are filing legal action against AbbVie and Abbott, for allegedly causing Sylavanus to suffer major cardiac complications. In addition to the blood clot injury, Phyllis claims that the testosterone gel had caused loss of consortium in her marriage.
According to the AndroGel lawsuit, Sylvanus had started testosterone replacement therapy on Dec. 05, 2008 when he was prescribed Axiron and AndroGel. Both products are meant to help maintain or increase the natural testosterone production in men who are suffering from low testosterone levels. Sylvanus had used the testosterone gel products until January 2014.
Sylvanus had reportedly suffered AndroGel side effects on June 07, 2013, when he was diagnosed with an aortic embolism.
It is important to note that a significant testosterone replacement therapy study was published that year, which exposed many of the dangers associated with these products.
Androgel & Testosterone Teplacement Therapy Complications
The low testosterone (low-T) supplement industry is worth over a billion dollars, having gained widespread popularity over the last decade.
Axiron and AndroGel are just two examples of many products, which are advertised to treat men who believed their testosterone levels were depleting. Symptoms can include: weight gain, irritability, loss of sex drive, loss of muscle mass, and other side effects associated with aging.
In January 2014, the medical journal PLUSOne had published a testosterone replacement therapy study observing the adverse effects of these products.
The study observed 56,0000 patients, and was conducted by the UCLA and that National Cancer Institute. Results suggested that younger men with undiagnosed cardiovascular disease and men older the age of 65, were the patients with the highest risk of blood clot formation.
AndroGel and Axiron are some of the most popular low-T products in America, manufactured by AbbVie Inc. and Eli Lilly respectively. AbbVie was originally apart of Abbott Laboratories but branched out on its own in the last several years, which also makes Abbott potentially liable for adverse AndroGel side effects.
Slyvanus is one of many men who have allegedly suffered AndroGel side effects and claim that the companies failed to protect him against dangerous complication. His claim is joining a group of similar AndroGel lawsuits, filed in MDL No. 2545 centered in Northern Illinois. Each of these lawsuits describe similar alleged AndroGel side effects, as well as other instances of TRT blood clot injuries.
The AndroGel Lawsuit is Case No. 1:16-cv-01993, in the U.S. District Court of Northern Illinois.
