Ajinomoto recall overview:

  • Who: Ajinomoto Foods North America Inc. is recalling more than 36.9 million pounds of chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai products.
  • Why: The recall is due to potential contamination with foreign material, specifically glass.
  • Where: The recall is effective across the United States, with certain products also exported to Canada and Mexico.

Ajinomoto Foods North America has expanded its recall to include more than 36.9 million pounds of various frozen food products due to possible glass contamination.

The initial recall, announced on Feb. 19, now covers a broader range of products, including 36,987,575 pounds of chicken and pork fried rice, ramen and shu mai dumplings, produced between Oct. 21, 2024, and Feb. 26, 2026.

The recall was expanded after multiple consumer complaints of glass fragments in the products. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) confirmed that the contamination likely originated from carrots used in these products.

The affected items, branded under Ajinomoto, Kroger, Ling Ling, Tai Pei and Trader Joe’s, have best-by dates from Feb. 28, 2026, to Aug. 19, 2027. These products bear establishment numbers P-18356, P-18356B or P-47971 and were distributed nationwide, with some shipments to Canada and Mexico.

“Consumers who have purchased these products are urged not to consume them. These products should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase,” the recall notice says.

Consumers advised to check freezers for recalled products

The recall notice emphasizes that consumers should check their freezers for the recalled products, as there is concern that some items may still be in circulation.

The FSIS is actively conducting recall effectiveness checks to ensure that the products are no longer available to consumers.

Ajinomoto Foods North America is taking steps to address the issue by working closely with the FSIS to ensure all affected products are removed from shelves.

The company has also provided contact information for consumers who have questions or concerns about the recall. Consumers can reach Ajinomoto Foods North America’s Consumer Affairs at (855) 742-5011 or via email at [email protected] for more details.

Ajinomoto Foods North America reports that there have been no confirmed injuries related to the consumption of the recalled products. The company is not currently facing any legal action over the recall, but recalls of this nature are closely monitored as they sometimes lead to class action lawsuits.
