Actos Pills and BoxA new Actos lawsuit has joined the existing litigation over the diabetes drug Actos, alleging that the type-2 diabetes medication causes bladder cancer

It was filed by plaintiff Benjamin Long, alleging that the diabetes drug Actos caused him to develop bladder cancer. His Actos bladder cancer lawsuit is against Takeda Pharmaceuticals, the drug’s manufacturer, as well as several related companies.

According to the text of the Actos lawsuit, Long began taking the drug in 2007 and took it up until 2011. In 2011, when Long was 19, he was diagnosed with bladder cancer.

Long’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit makes claims that have been raised by others against Takeda. Among these allegations is the charge that the makers of Actos have been aware of the risk of bladder cancer for years.

This Actos bladder cancer lawsuit makes the claim that since the early 2000s, the earliest clinical tests of Actos have revealed that the drug could increase a person’s risk for bladder cancer. Additionally, peer-reviewed studies after the drug hit the market have made similar claims.

This led to a flurry of regulatory actions by other countries’ medical agencies. The drug was suspended, advised against, or outright banned in the United States, Canada, France, and Germany during this time.

Long’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit is joining others in a type of group litigation called a multidistrict litigation or MDL. MDLs are a sort of group lawsuit, similar in some ways to class action lawsuits.

In both MDLs and class action lawsuits, a group of people allege that they have suffered similar harm at the hands of the same defendant. The main difference is that class action lawsuits start out as group lawsuits, while MDLs typically start out as a group of similar individual lawsuits which are later combined into a single MDL.

Long’s Actos bladder cancer lawsuit seeks reimbursement for medical costs, lost wages, and other compensations for the alleged harms he has suffered.

The Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuit is Benjamin Long v. Takeda Pharmaceuticals America Inc., et al, Case  No. 6:14-cv-02377, filed in the MDL In Re: Actos Product Liability Litigation, MDL No. 2299, in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Louisiana.

In general, Actos lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
