Abilify Compulsive GamblingA California man recently filed a lawsuit against Bristol-Myers Squibb over problems with Abilify impulsive gambling, and alleges that the pharmaceutical company failed to adequately warn about this risk.

The plaintiff, Wayne D. began taking Abilify at the direction of his doctor in August 2009. But after Wayne started taking Abilify, he says he began struggling with compulsive gambling.

While Abilify impulsive gambling problems may not cause direct physical harm, they can lead to lasting issues for Abilify patients and their families, including significant financial damages. In this case, the lawsuit claims that Wayne’s Abilify impulsive gambling issues caused serious monetary harm, to the extent that he became financially unstable.

Wayne’s problems weren’t only monetary–the impulsive gambling also led to mental and physical damage, he claims. The damage to Wayne’s brain that has caused his Abilify impulsive gambling problem, the lawsuit alleges, “constitutes a physical injury,” and will continue to cause serious problems far into the future.

Wayne filed his Abilify impulsive gambling lawsuit on Nov. 17 in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Florida. It was filed on multiple counts, including breach of express and implied warranties, negligence, fraudulent concealment, and punitive damages, among several others.

Background of Abilify

Abilify is an antipsychotic medication produced jointly by Bristol-Myers Squibb and Otsuka Pharmaceuticals. Abilify is also sold under its generic name, aripiprazole. The antipsychotic medication is used to treat a variety of mental disorders including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression.

Abilify is one of the more popular antipsychotic options currently available, and it brings in nearly $8 billion annually in sales.

Unfortunately, despite its popularity and widespread use of the drug, a growing number of patients are coming forward with reports of significant Abilify side effects. According to patients, Abilify can cause serious impulse control problems, including compulsive behaviors like Abilify impulsive gambling, sex addiction and compulsive shopping.

Abilify Impulsive Gambling

Abilify patients have reportedly been forced into deep debt because of their Abilify impulsive gambling problems. Abilify impulsive gambling can become so severe that they end up maxing out credit cards or even borrowing money, which can lead to significant financial losses.

These compulsive complications may not cause physical harm, but they can certainly ruin lives—that of the user as well as the lives of their family members.

An added problem with Abilify impulsive gambling issues is that it’s a hard hole to climb out of. Unfortunately, it is very difficult for people suffering from these kinds of compulsive behaviors to stop and return to normal life without getting professional help. On top of heavy monetary losses, undergoing gambling addiction treatment is also a significant expense.

Filing an Abilify Impulsive Gambling Lawsuit

A growing number of patients like Wayne, with their own stories about Abilify compulsive gambling and other side effects, are choosing to file lawsuits against Bristol-Myers Squibb, the drug’s manufacturer. Lawsuits claim that they were not given adequate warning about the risk of Abilify impulsive gambling linked with the popular antipsychotic, and that had they known of the risk, they would have chosen a safer alternative and avoided the problem altogether.

If you or someone you love has suffered or is suffering from Abilify impulsive gambling or other compulsive behaviors like compulsive shopping and sexual addictions after using Abilify, you may able to join an Abilify lawsuit investigation.

The Abilify Impulsive Gambling Lawsuit is Case No. 3:17-cv-00812-MCR-GRJ, in the U.S. District Court for the Pensacola Division of the Northern District of Florida.

In general, Abilify lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
