Pradaxa atrial fibrillation ekg bleedingDespite the popularity of Pradaxa, a growing number of users report that there is a risk of Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage associated with the blood thinner drug.

Pradaxa’s manufacturer, Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, has already been targeted in a slew of lawsuits filed over serious Pradaxa side effects, including Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage. According to these lawsuits, the pharmaceutical giant failed to adequately warn the public and the medical community about the risk of these complications, especially when compared with the risk of these side effects posed by other, similar drugs. Thousands of these lawsuits have so far been filed.

Pradaxa Background

Pradaxa (also known by its generic name, dabigatran) is a popular anticoagulant medication. Pradaxa and other anticoagulants or blood thinners like it are used primarily to prevent blood clotting, a condition that can cause a number of serious issues such as stroke. Pradaxa was first approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) just in 2010 as an alternative for the traditional blood thinner, warfarin (or Coumadin). Pradaxa is one of several drugs that have recently entered the market as competition for warfarin, and they have quickly grown in popularity.

Just two years after its approval, Pradaxa had already been prescribed to 3.7 million U.S. patients. Any major side effects of Pradaxa, therefore, may put millions of patients at risk.

Of course, any medication will come with certain mild side effects that generally go away on their own without further treatment. However, Pradaxa’s risks may be more severe. Patients have reported suffering from a Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage after using the medication. Lawsuits and studies have indicated that the risk of Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage is more significant than originally thought.

Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage, or bleeding in the brain, is the most dangerous side effect of Pradaxa. It is important to know the symptoms of a brain bleed from Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage so you are better able to seek medical attention immediately.

Pradaxa Intracranial Hemorrhage

Because of the nature of blood thinner drugs like Pradaxa, these drugs often cause excessive and unusual bruising and bleeding. This is because when a person takes a blood thinner to avoid blood clotting and its dangerous consequences, their body is also less able to form blood clots to prevent this kind of unusual bleeding.

For most, bruising and bleeding side effects are extremely minor. For others, however, Pradaxa may cause Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage, which in some cases is fatal, but otherwise can still have severe, life-altering consequences.

Symptoms of Pradaxa Intracranial Hemorrhage

  • A sudden severe headache
  • Seizures with no previous history of seizures
  • Weakness in an arm or leg
  • Nausea or vomiting
  • Decreased alertness; lethargy
  • Changes in vision
  • Tingling or numbness
  • Difficulty speaking or understanding speech
  • Difficulty swallowing
  • Difficulty reading or writing
  • Loss of fine motor skills (including hand tremors)
  • Loss of coordination
  • Loss of balance
  • An abnormal sense of taste

Filing a Pradaxa Intracranial Hemorrhage Lawsuit

If you or someone you love has taken Pradaxa and has subsequently experienced any of the above symptoms, such as excessive bleeding or Pradaxa intracranial hemorrhage, you may have cause for filing a Pradaxa bleeding side effects lawsuit. Of course, filing a lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering caused by side effects of Pradaxa or bring a loved one back to life, but it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.

In general, Pradaxa lawsuits are filed individually by each plaintiff and are not class actions.
