A woman uses a mirror to apply makeup.L’Oreal customers have complained that the makeup brand’s pump bottles don’t allow them to get all of the foundation they paid for out of the bottle.

L’Oreal is a massive cosmetic company that owns countless luxury, professional, and drugstore beauty lines. Some brands owned by the company include: Kérastase, Redken, Lancôme, Kiehl’s, Clairsonic, Urban Decay, IT Cosmetics, Garnier, Maybelline, NYX Cosmetics, Essie, Vichy, Skinceuticals, and more. Between their numerous ventures, the company made a profit of €26.93 billion in 2018 – roughly $29.86 billion USD.

Some L’Oreal customers argue that the brand’s makeup containers are equipped with a defective pump. The pump allegedly causes consumers to waste a significant amount of their product simply because they are unable to get it out of the container.

Several customers have complained in Amazon reviews of L’Oreal’s Visible Lift Serum Absolute Foundation. One consumer wrote that “[t]here is always makeup in the bottom of the bottle that will not pump out and you can’t unwind the top to get it out a different way.”

Another customer remarked that the “stupid” pump design and unused product seemed wasteful. One reviewer noted that, after the pump finished dispensing product, they were able to get the top off and found enough foundation to last them at least several days. Some consumers reportedly have to use a hammer to get the bottle open and retrieve the last of the foundation.

“Seems they would come up with a better pump to utilize all the makeup,” one customer wrote.

Consumers have left similar reviews on L’Oreal’s website. On the Visible Lift Serum Absolute Foundation page, one consumer wrote:

“I love the product but hate the packaging. When you pay for a whole bottle of makeup but cannot get all of it out of the container, then, you are wasting money. I complained about this before and they were kind enough to send me a replacement but this one isn’t any better. When it gets down to about a half an inch left of makeup at the bottom, it will not pump any more out. It is truly a waste of money.”

The problem reportedly affects more than just the Visible Lift Serum Absolute Foundation. The same pump is allegedly used in the L’Oreal Age Perfect Eye Renewal Eye Cream, L’Oreal Revitalift Bright Reveal Brightening Day Moisturizer, Maybelline Superstay Better Skin Skin-Transforming Foundation, Revlon Photoready Airbrush Effect Foundation, Revlon Photoready Perfecting Primer, Dior Diorskin Nude Foundation, and other products.

If L’Oreal customers are not getting the product they paid for, they may be able to take legal action for misleading actions. A class action lawsuit against L’Oreal argued that the company equipped their products with defective pumps and sealed the bottles so that consumers couldn’t even open them to scrape the remaining product out. Due to these factors, consumer allegedly paid for product that they had no way of accessing.
