Xarelto injuries from blood thinner side effectsA new claim has been added to the MDL blood thinner lawsuit litigation involving claims of injuries caused by Xarelto.

Plaintiff Roman M. has filed this lawsuit against Janssen Research and Development and Johnson & Johnson, arguing that he sustained significant damages due to the ingestion of Xarelto. He, like many others who have chosen to file a blood thinner lawsuit, argues that Xarelto was marketed as safe and effective as an oral anticoagulant despite the fact that it had significant side effects and risks.

The plaintiff in this blood thinner lawsuit says he began using Xarelto as prescribed by his physician in January 2015. Roman allegedly experienced severe gastrointestinal bleeding on Jan. 12, 2015 and had to be hospitalized for his injuries. During his hospitalization, he was transfused with packed red blood cells.

He alleges that he sustained a life-threatening internal bleed in addition to pain and suffering, personal injuries and emotional distress directly as a result of taking Xarelto as prescribed. He adds that he would never have used this medication if the defendants had appropriately disclosed the risks associated with Xarelto’s use, given that there were safer alternative medications available.

Unfortunately, a growing number of individuals who have suffered after taking Xarelto have chosen to file a lawsuit in an attempt to recover compensation. Their cases join the growing Xarelto MDL.

They allege that the manufacturers of this drug were aware of this high-risk profile but failed to disclose these side effects. More than 18,000 different patient lawsuits have been filed accusing Bayer and Johnson & Johnson of hiding Xarelto’s dangers.

Many of these patients say they had to go through hospital stays in an intensive care unit after sustaining an internal bleed. The drug has also been connected with as many as 370 different fatalities.

The Xarelto medication is the top selling product for Bayer despite the numerous complaints lodged against it by those taking the drug. Most of these patients claim that the manufacturers knew about the dangers of life-threatening internal bleeding. They claim that in failing to warn physicians and plaintiffs about this problem, manufacturers left the patients without the opportunity to recognize early problem signs so that they could get help or make a decision not to use the drug to begin with.

As with any medication, there are side effects associated with Xarelto, but the gastrointestinal internal bleeding risk is one that could be quite severe. Infrequent side effects include feeling faint, collection of clotted blood in the face tissue or organ or abnormal liver function tests. However, when bleeding occurs, it tends to be severe. A Xarelto internal bleed can require hospitalization or transfusions in addition to other complications.

This Blood Thinner Lawsuit is Case No. 2:19-cv-00260-EEF-MBN, filed in the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Louisiana.
