Experts and customers say that Neocate formula side effects may include rickets and bone fractures. Neocate is a hypoallergenic formula that is advertised as a helpful alternative to traditional formulas for babies who have allergies to many formula ingredients. However, Neocate’s risks may outweigh its benefits.

Neocate has been linked to a range of dangerous side effects because it may not offer necessary nutrition to babies as they grow. Some of the possible Neocate formula side effects include:

  • broken bones
  • hypophosphatemia (low phosphate levels in the blood)
  • long-term skeletal damage
  • rickets
  • skeletal deformities
  • stunted growth
  • nutritional deficiencies

A range of Neocate products may be associated with the possible side effects, including the following:

  • Neocate Syneo Infant
  • Neocate Infant DHA/ARA
  • Neocate Nutra
  • Neocate Junior
  • Neocate Junior with Probiotics
  • Neocate Splash

Neocate formula is advertised as supporting “normal growth and development,” but unfortunately, this may not be the case. Babies have reportedly suffered injuries connected with Neocate.

Parents may not know why their baby is experiencing symptoms like broken bones and rickets. If you feed your baby a Neocate formula and your child has experienced one or multiple of the symptoms above, the injuries may be the result of Neocate use. Some parents may think that their baby’s injuries are the result of other causes like genetics, but this may not be the case.

If you feed or fed your baby Neocate and your baby suffered conditions like rickets and skeletal deformities, you may have a legal claim. An experienced lawyer can help you determine if your baby’s conditions may really be Neocate formula side effects, and can help you build a legal claim.

Research on Neocate Formula Side Effects

In 2017 results from a study on Neocate were published in the journal Bone. The study was conducted by Yale University and the Mayo Clinic and found that phosphate, an essential nutrient in baby formula, was not absorbed sufficiently by children who were given the formula.

In the study, 51 babies in North America and Ireland were fed Neocate as their primary source of nutrients. Unfortunately, 94% of babies given Neocate in the study were found to have broken bones, rickets, or low phosphate levels.

Happily, most babies who suffered from these conditions improved when they were switched to a different formula or were given additional phosphate to supplement the phosphate not absorbed from the Neocate formula.

Phosphate and Neocate Formula Side Effects

Phosphate is an essential nutrient needed to form strong bones, and bones are composed of over 50 percent phosphorous. A lack of phosphorus can cause many problems, including broken bones, and skeletal issues, as linked to Neocate.

In fact, a 2002 study indicated that phosphorus is just as important to building strong bones as calcium. Because the phosphate in Neocate has been unable to be absorbed into babies’ bones well, this deficit can negatively impact a child’s bone development.

According to the Journal of the American College of Nutrition, the publishers of the 2002 study, phosphorous and calcium are “co-dependent” in creating good bone health. Reportedly, phosphorous maximizes the strengthening benefits of calcium.
