The concern over Uloric cardiac related deaths has increased as a result of studies that have indicated that patients taking this medication as prescribed by their doctor could be at risk.
Any patient who has begun taking this drug or has taken it in the past and suffered a life-threatening heart issue should be aware of the growing number of patients with similar experiences.
Some family members may have even lost their loved ones due to the realities of Uloric cardiac related deaths.
The gout medication Uloric is frequently given to patients even though the Food and Drug Administration has previously issued a warning about the possibility of Uloric cardiac related deaths. A study identified that Uloric cardiac related deaths were more common for patients taking that medication in comparison with allopurinol, another gout treatment.
The study identified that Uloric cardiac related deaths were more common with those patients taking this gout medication, as well as deaths from all other causes.
Other side effects linked to this gout medication include non-fatal strokes, non-fatal heart attacks, and cardiac ischemia which leads to the need for immediate surgery. The Food and Drug Administration has issued multiple drug safety communications about the concerns of Uloric cardiac related deaths.
Takeda Pharmaceuticals released their clinical trial data indicating that there was a higher risk of heart related events and fatalities linked to Uloric, compared with the gout medication allopurinol.
More than 6,000 gout patients were included in that study. Those patients were taking either allopurinol or Uloric. The primary outcome of that trial indicated the risk of Uloric cardiac related deaths was increased.
The risk of cardiac ischemia is also present for those patients taking Uloric. Ischemia happens when there is a decrease in the blood supply to the heart.
Prior to the full range of knowledge about Uloric cardiac related deaths, the FDA approved Uloric in 2009. Those initial clinical trials indicated issues with stroke, heart attack and heart related deaths.
At that time, those side effects were placed on the label of the medication. The Food and Drug Administration required the manufacturer to complete additional studies on Uloric cardiac related deaths because of those initial concerns.
Gout is a form of arthritis that occurs when there is a build up of uric acid. This can lead to severe pain, swelling and redness in at least one joint. Allopurinol and Uloric work by lowering the uric acid levels in the blood.
However, as more patients become aware of the dangers of Uloric cardiac related death, they may want to consult their physician about the full range of risks. Uloric cardiac related deaths are now being publicized as a dangerous side effect that may cause an excessive risk for patients.
