Consumer Alleges Injuries Due to Exploding Pressure CookerA Florida woman has come forward to report concerns about an exploding pressure cooker made by Tristar after an incident in her own kitchen allegedly left her with burns and other injuries.

Plaintiff Beth M. alleges the manufacturer of her Tristar pressure cooker has failed to notify consumers about the dangers that they face when using these devices for food preparation. The pressure cooker device uses high pressure to cook food quickly, but that also comes with a risk of injury if the lid’s locking mechanism fails to contain the pressure.

The exploding pressure cooker lawsuit says that the plaintiff purchased a pressure cooker in April of 2016 after watching a television ad. The maker of that pressure cooker device was Tristar. The exploding pressure cooker lawsuit says that at no time during the purchase of the pressure cooker obtained by was Beth made aware of a risk that the pressure cooker might explode.

While using the pressure cooker to prepare a meal, Beth says, it exploded without warning, which caused scalding hot contents, liquid, and steam to fly out of the pressure cooker. Beth says she was covered by the hot food, causing injuries.

The exploding pressure cooker lawsuit says that the plaintiff sustained disfiguring and painful burns to her body leading to disability, embarrassment, humiliation, mental anguish, loss of capacity for the enjoyment of life, and the need for nursing and medical care and treatment.

Beth says that the exploding pressure cooker failed to perform in an expected manner and as a result, caused severe injuries. She says in her complaint that the device in question had not been misused after sale, was well within its anticipated useful life and that this defect was not ever explained to possible consumers until after it was too late.

The exploding pressure cooker lawsuit says that the defendants knew or should have known that the pressure cooker was defective and unreasonably dangerous for any consumer who would use the product for the purpose and manner in which it was intended to be used. Beth further argues that Tristar is responsible for failing to give appropriate instructions or warnings and did not partake in appropriate post-marketing efforts to prevent the incident named in the lawsuit.

Numerous different consumers like Beth have come forward to allege issues related to an exploding pressure cooker. Many of these cookers are made by Cuisinart and have led to severe and even disabling injuries.

As with other kinds of consumer products, an injured user might claim that the product is defective due to design, manufacturing issues, or a failure to warn about the risks. Lawsuits often take aim at the makers of these allegedly dangerous products in an effort to hold the relevant companies accountable for injuries sustained by users who say they had no idea about the problems prior to purchase.

The Exploding Pressure Cooker Lawsuit is case 9:18-cv-81116-DMM; filed in the United States District Court, Southern District of Florida, West Palm Beach Division.
