While baby powder products are undoubtedly popular and have been used regularly for generations in both infants and adults, scientific evidence suggests some of these products may cause talc powder ovarian cancer.
More and more baby powder users are coming forward with allegations of talc powder ovarian cancer. A recent lawsuit was filed by an Arizona woman, plaintiff Katherine A., alleging that she was diagnosed with talc powder ovarian cancer after using Johnson & Johnson baby powder products for decades as part of her daily hygiene routine.
According to lawsuits like Katherine’s, Johnson & Johnson specifically targeted adult women with advertising to use baby powder for personal hygiene and not just on babies. One such ad said, “For you, use every day to help feel soft, fresh, and comfortable.” Another stated that “Your body perspires in more places than just under your arms,” and “Shower to Shower can be used all over your body.”
Katherine says she trusted these advertisements, using the baby powder products as part of her feminine hygiene routine, including in her genital area. Katherine says she used Shower to Shower baby powder in this manner regularly for decades, from around 1961 to 2015.
Unfortunately, Katherine was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in January 2015. She then became aware of the reported connection between talc baby powder and cancer. She chose to pursue litigation against Johnson & Johnson, alleging that she was diagnosed with talc powder ovarian cancer because of the company’s deceptive marketing and failure to warn about the product’s risks.
Not only did this use of baby powder lead to her talc powder ovarian cancer diagnosis and related injuries, the lawsuit alleges, but also to substantial economic loss.
Katherine filed her talc powder ovarian cancer lawsuit in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia on multiple counts, including negligence, defective manufacture and design, failure to warn, breach of express and implied warranties, and fraud, among others.
Talc Powder Ovarian Cancer
Talc-based baby powder products, including Johnson & Johnson’s popular Shower to Shower, have been widely used for many decades. Although the most well-known use of baby powder is to prevent diaper rash in babies, it is also commonly marketed as a feminine hygiene product. Unfortunately, baby powder products like Shower to Shower have been linked with ovarian cancer.
Generations of women have used these kinds of baby powder products as part of their daily routines for, in many cases, decades. Given this, a link between talc powder and ovarian cancer could prove deadly for thousands.
Filing a Talc Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit
If you or someone you love has used Johnson & Johnson’s Shower to Shower or a similar talc powder product, especially as part of a regular hygiene routine, and have since been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, you may be able to file a talc powder ovarian cancer lawsuit. Lawsuits allege that Johnson & Johnson failed to warn consumers about the link between talc powder and ovarian cancer.
While filing a talc powder ovarian cancer lawsuit cannot take away the pain and suffering of a patient dealing from ovarian cancer, and cannot bring a loved one back to life, it can help to alleviate the financial burden caused by medical expenses and lost wages.
The Talc Powder Ovarian Cancer Lawsuit is Case No. 1:17-cv-2762, in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia.
